Warming up to the Boss

The FX Boss and I are through the honeymoon stage I’d say. For an “aged” regulated PCP, the Boss rocks and that’s compared to any current offerings as well. Fill to 250 bar and get 40 accurate shots on reg at 75 FPE. The action is straight velvety butter smoooth. Bought the Boss to be my benchrest shooter and I must say it’s done very well at it.

Yesterday I won my first BRS (benchrest silhouette) match of the year. There was another Boss right on my tail and I squeaked out the win by one hit. The match is held between Feb to Oct, the first Saturday of those months. If you live anywhere close to central Texas you owe it to yourself come out and join the competition. PM me for details.

Shot this 100 yard 5-shot group on Friday while practicing for the competition coming the next morning. Used a front bag rest and only myself to support the rear of rifle, just as is required by the BRS rules.

Well done Derrick! Sorry I missed the shoot. Anyone in the Central Texas area, as Derrick said should attend, it is a great time. So if memory serves, you have won this event with a .22, now with a .30, maybe a .25 as well? So what is your favorite for this event?

Hey wait a minute...your a bullpup guy! What gives? :)

PS if you decide to sell this one....let me know.

PSS By the way, that is one heck of a group.... Congrats my friend, sorry I missed you this month...maybe next month.

Congrats on the win! That .30 FX Boss/Bobcat with the ST barrel and 44.75 grain JSBs is a laser beam combination. I’ve had my Bobcat for a couple years now and it always shoots lights out. Try the 50.1 grain when you get a chance. Almost by just a hair as accurate as the 44.75s and much less affected by the wind. They’ll shoot about 35 to 40 FPS slower than the lighter pellets...

Thank you guys!

FunGun, yes, that’s correct, I’ve won with a .22 Red Wolf HP and all other wins have come with a .30 ST gun (.30 Cricket custom bullpup & Boss). Not that I haven’t tried to win with a .25 but it just hasn’t come together for me. That and Ron was on fire with his Charlie Frear PT .25 Cricket bullpup during those matches.

Still love bullpups. As usual, I’ll switch up which gun I compete with this year. My .22 EdGun Matador R3 has something to prove 😁

I like the Boss best so far. It’s just so complementing to shoot. It was also very affordable used, has a beautifully figured walnut stock and I’ve shot my tightest groups to date with it.

C’cut, thank you for the advice. I’ll try the 50s out, cause there is no doubt I need help in cheating that wind 💨🤓

Yeah, the new fancy adjustable rifles from FX are certainly amazing. The Royale/Boss/Bobcat line is still an amaxing, simple and dead accurate line of rifles. Had a Boss once as well as Royale 500. Wish I never sold the 500. Very nice 100 yard group BTW, and congrats on the win. Nice to see ones practice and honing of skills pay off.

Totally awesome Derrick, and to do it without a rear bag, makes it just that more awesome. Heck, some of us would be proud of that at 50 yds! LOL

That Silhouette Match Winner medal is a beauty and you're collecting those things like Super Bowl rings ;-)

Let's recap .. 40 shots total.. with ten shots at 60 yd chickens, then ten at 75 yd pigs, and ten at 90 yd turkeys, and finally ten at 100 yd rams

Are you allowed to refill your gun with air during the match? I know you said your Boss gets 40 shots, so that's cutting it close.

Thanks for the pics man, and look forward to next months results.

Don't do this to me.. dang-it. I've always had the itch for a Boss and your not making it any easier with that beauty you have there. I have it's younger brother, the Royale in 25cal it's high tech cousin the Crown. My Royale is a sweet shooter and like you mentioned, it's buttery smooth to cock, a bit smoother than the Crown at that. Congrats on the win too. Just looking at that beautiful stock made me forget about that part of the thread, sorry.....

Yes, Fuss, you can refill before each relay. It’s rare to take more than 20 shots at a given relay. You’ve got 10 minutes to take as many shots as desired at the relay distance on a swinger. The clock is still ticking from the original 10 minute limit when you go for score/record. All 10 recorded shots must be in order and no going back to the swinger.

Derrick, I need Silhouette shooting for dummies!

So you've got 10 minutes to shoot the relay. That would be 40 minutes for a match not counting down time between relays.

Let's break it down into a relay. So I got 10 chickens lined up at 60 yds

Shot 1 at first chicken, I miss

Shot 2 at same chicken in number one spot I hit it this time

Shot 3 miss

Shot 4 miss

Shot 5 finally hit 2nd chicken

Shot 6 hit 3rd chicken....hey I'm getting the hang of this

Lets say I nail the rest of the 7 chickens on first shot.

That's a total of 13 shots to clear the lane. What's my score for the lane????

You go for score on Chickens; there are 5 chickens on bottom row and 5 on top row. You start your first shot at bottom left chicken and continue to the right. If you miss, you go to the next one and leave this missed one standing. If you hit one out of order, you’ve just missed the one you should have shot and the one you hit out of order. Only 10 shots on record per relay.
