Want to have fun with arrows ???

Hi,

I used shoot my childhood 30# recurve bow for fun until my injured, worn out old shoulder just got to painful for me to enjoy the bow anymore. I am the old guy with some time on my hands and an addiction to pellet rifles. I saw a video by Matt Dubber shooting an FX air rifle with an arrow barrel, looked liked something I would enjoy.

Long story, the rig I was interested in: FX Dreamline Classic, .30 cal, synthetic stock with the arrow barrel and 10 arrows. Out of stock everywhere until I read on the forum about Ken Hicks of SPAW. In about a week I had the dreamline and arrow barrel set-up in my hands. In case the arrow barrel set up did not ring my bell, I had been wanting a .30 cal rifle anyway.

My first shot was comical, the arrow remained on the barrel and the insert with field point launched down range somewhere. I tried shot number two....same thing, not so funny now. Third time is the charm, not to be.... Contacted Mr. Hicks with my disapointing results with the arrows. He offered some advice and I contacted FXUSA. It took a day to make contact with them and in the meantime I knocked an insert out of another arrow.....problem revealed just a little adhesive had been applied to the insert, not enough to withstand the high pressure charge.

I re-glued the inserts in the seven arrows. Waited overnight and let the adhesive cure. My first try was fantastic, this set up made an old guy smile ear to ear. Problem was solved and all I can say is this is more fun that I have had in a long time.

I guess I got a bad batch of arrows, easy fix, but a little disapointing for new arrows to be defective. FX is making good on the arrows that I lost the inserts from.

I sighted in the rifle with the arrow barrel and it is very accurate, groups well and I will have to be carefull shooting more than one arrow into the same bulls eye, they group that tight you will damage your arrows. My target at 30 yards and you can see how well it shoots.

Droptine26,

I have the Gold Tip brand 396, 20 inch length. Avg weight of the 7 good arrows I have 403gn, hence the 396 name. I shot 10 arrows across the Cauldwell for an avg of 272.6, low of 267 and high of 276fps. 230 bar fill, reg @ 150 bar, 83 deg F. and I am @3200' elevation. I have not changed any settings from how Ken Hicks set it up for me (FX Dreamline Classic).

I do not plan on hunting with this arrow shooter, my home range has several animal targets and a yellow jacket block target with many bulls eyes. It has exceeded my expectations and the fun level for an old guy is off the chart.

Happy Independance Day,

I’m interested in an arrow shooter and 30 cal as well. Currently shooting a streamline 25 with a fair degree of satisfaction, I did quite a few mods before I realized a factory defect was the issue , however it’s a hoss now . Anyway I was wondering have you used the 30 cal part of your operation and how hard is the transition? Do you have to re-sight etc ?

I just crawled out from the rock I live under, sorry it took so long for me to reply.

I switch back and forth occasionally, it is not difficult or time consuming. I do use two different scopes, Hawk XB-1 1.5-5 x32 for arrows and a Hawk Sidewinder 4-16x50 for the 30cal pellets. I shoot 3D rubber targets to 30 yards very accurately, it can do 40 yards but my accuracy drops. I can hit my 120 yard six inch steel target no problem, I am sure it would be accurate further but that's the limit of my range....too many trees in the way after that. Sighting in is enjoyable for me, but I made small sharpie marks on the scope rail to correspond to where the scope rings mount. So it is pretty much ready to go after mounting the scope.

I have shot the Dreamline quite a bit in both configurations and my sons and even their wives really enjoy shooting the 3D targets. Everyone comments how good the trigger is and how easy it is to cock with the side lever. Have had no problems with the rifle at all and would recommend purchasing from Ken Hicks of SPAW, he sets up what he sells to be trouble free.
