20 yard "Wanabe like Manabe" - Shooting Challenge

Finally got around to taking the challenge. I recently picked up a used FX Royale 400. Supposedly it had some sort of tune/polish/crown done, but no one has any record of it. It also came with a Huggett shroud and a regulator. I had AoA install FX's new carbon fiber bottle which increases the shot count and decreases the weight. Overall I really like the Royale 400. Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, I still think it's one of the best airguns out there.

I am pleased with this target, but feel there is room for improvement. Looks like I should've adjusted my windage turret one click to the right!

Bitfrost is correct regarding the scope.

As far as the Royale... honestly I don't think you need to spend any money on a "tune". This Royale functions almost identical to the one I owned years ago. But if you plan on serious target shooting with your Royale then I would suggest a regulator. It simply makes the shots more consistent. And consistency translates to accuracy.

"manabeknives"Nice Shooting Michael!
That's a really nice looking Royale 400 you've got there..didn't know they even had CF bottles for FX rifles.
Which head size were you using....seem to work well in your rifle. Agree that you need to adjust your turret a click...almost there.
Mike
Thanks Mike (& Jimmy)

I only have 5.52 head size. I would like to try some 5.53 head size pellets. The rifle came to me shooting pretty hot. I detuned it down to about 875 with JSB 18g. I've only had a few sessions with the rifle so I've yet to find the optimum FPS, pellet size, and trigger break.

Hi Jimmy,

Just tried my first Wanabe like Manabe Challenge at 20 yds...It is Darn harder then I thought, Wind was down so I gave it a try for the 50 shots. Had to use the Thermacell as the mosquitoes were out. Next I will try the 14 yard or 13 meters. Then I will try 30 yds with 1/4" bulls....

Manabe is the man!

Also the 2 person concrete shooting bench is finished at the Fortress of Pelletude. Just say when you want to bulid yours at Camp Fussel. Hope the photo shows up inn the link....only showed the HTML code in the preview.

strikefastI don't know why my post was moved here either Jimmy. The picture did not come with it so I will try it again in this reply as you suggested.

Nice shooting Paul. Your post was moved here because it was the same topic. We're trying to keep everything organized. For example all "20 yard wanabe be like manabe" should go in this topic. If someone start a 30 yard "wanabe like manabe" topic then we'd like to see all the 30 yard responses go there.

Nice Shooting Paul....Target looks excellent! Sounds like you have a Bench set-up that is similar to Coldkings....Jealous! All I got is a milk crate and a old picture frame! Hope to see your efforts at both the closer and further distances. Also, give us a look at what you're shooting...love to see a pic of your rifle and your benchrest set-up
Thanks
Mike

Tomorrow I go for surgery, wisdom teeth removal... all of them at once. So, I wanted to get a quick entry in before all that pain ensues!
And, yes I'm taking all the excuses I can because I'm not satisfied with what I shot. So...
I haven't shot in this fashion since last years EBR.
I'm really stressed out over tomorrows surgery.
I just got off work this morning.
Winds - 10-20mph with gusts!
Winter lasts 9 months and it's still here.
Shooting off a shaky card table.
Unsorted JSB straight from a new tin
John Belushi "I ran out of gas, I had a flat tire, I didn't have enough money for cab fare, my tux didn't come back from the cleaners, I had an old friend come in from outta town, someone stole my car, there was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locusts, it wasn't my fault, I swear to god!" LOL! :D
Oh, and I think I might have a clipping issue with my Verminator!

1st run...
Shot 33 I took the shroud end off. Shot 41 I switched to the single shot tray and power wheel to low. 1 refill around shot 35 or so.
Verminator MKII Extreme
FX Scope 6-18x44 used on 18
18g JSB's
Atlas Bipod
Folding card table

2nd run...
Was running short on time.
AA S-510 F.A.C.
BSA Mil-Mil scope 4-14x44 used on 12
Harris Bipod
Folding card table
Wind died down a little 5-15
This gun's good for about 40 shots, then the power drops off. That's why shot 40 is circled.

I hope to improve on this in the next few weeks or at least over the Summer. Fun challenge and really showed me that I need to get out and practice!
Happy Shooting!
