Walther MaximaThor .22 - performance

I agree with your suggestion of using the polymags out to 40 yards. This is my observation. I got a 47 PFE using 21 grain Baracuda match. Then my bolt o-ring disappeared, and now the bolt is jambed. Thank you for your info. I do like the rifle. my tests pretty much are the same as yours, except I've only fired 2 mags per fill. When the rifle is repaired, I'll try your 32 shot strings.

Hiya Pope On Dope, thankyou for the extensive review of your Maximathor. I have recently purchased the same rifle in .22 cal and so far have been pretty impressed. One thing I have noticed after reviewing your Chrony results and comparing them to my own, I have realized that the speed of my pellets reduces with each round fired, but yours actually increases with each pellet fired. Pellets used for testing where the same and to look at the final results were almost identical other then the fact that they are in total reverse. I was wondering if you could confirm your information as I am wondering if there is something perhaps wrong with my gun at this stage.

For your situation I would recomend backing off the hammer spring tension until you get a proper bell curve.
What I noticed about pope string is that perhaps he should be filling around 2500psi and shooting down to maybe 1500psi? That way his es will be a good bit tighter than 100+fps.

Hi Zack
I have had mine for about a month now and agree with your observations. The sweet spot on this gun is between 175-160 bar, after this, the velocity drops like a stone. The first two mags will give a consistent spread of about 30 fps but if you go another two, it will drop another 100 fps. In the sweet spot, I am getting around 45 fpe, 42 fpe, 43 fpe and 39.5 fpe from the 25 g monster, jsb jumbo heavy, Barracuda 21.14, jsb exact jumbo 15.9. All these pellets work well. I have also observed that the barrel does not like being cleaned and takes about 200 rounds for the groups to tighten back up. This gun is marketed as a hunting rifle but it weighs as much as a sniper outfit. Mine is around 13 pounds with scope and bipod! The barrel weight is extra baggage and does not improve accuracy, but if you remove it, your P.O.A will probably shift about 1.5-2.5 inches at 50 yards. I hope these observations are of use to you and anybody else considering buying one of these behemoths.

I have a .22. Mine broke after about 1200 rounds. Won't cock. Have to send it back to Arkansas. The service person says the symptoms suggest double-loading and the pellet worked its way to the interior of the action. We will see.

Has anyone installed a regulator in this rifle ? I'm hearing impaired with cochlear implants, and the ping from this rifle is like a cattle-prod to the head. I need to get rid of the ping.

The performance was very nice. I get 15 shots before the poi drops. Extremely accurate. Right up; there with my regulated AA S510 .25, that was modified and tuned by Motorehead.
