Walnut & Iron (so to speak) My New Hunter - FX Wildcat MK II Walnut .30cal

I have been squirrel hunting with my Daystate Huntsman Regal XL in .22 cal. It is a laser and at 30 FPE is is very capable of taking the little critters, but a head shot is not the always the high percentage hit shot, so I'll take a heart/lung shot at times. Little buggers can be pretty freaking tough sometimes and even with a good hit, they manage to drag the their little wounded butts off into a hide. I decided to get real with them and took my Impact .30 cal out a couple of times and it is DEVASTATING on them. Nailed so hard to the ground their buddies couldn't even drag them off. Well the Impact is set up for bench shooting and is heavy in that configuration, so I was wanting something lighter. I have always been one to choose a traditional looking sporter first but nothing on the market really was tripping my purchase finger. Have not been a fan of the bullpup looks, but the more I looked at the Wildcats in walnut the more I liked it. Well in person it meets all my expectations. It's going to be a great hunter. Feels light, shoulders great, could almost shoot it one handed with all the weight in the rear. Color me impressed! Out of the box it is shooting 46gr pellets at 890fps and typical FX accuracy. I put a 2.5-15 x 50 scope on it which I thick will be perfect for hunting. The stock has some figure in it. I may do some finish work in it to get the grain to show better. I like my Walnut & Iron.

The freezer will be full of bushy tails. :)

Fantastic rifle Loren!

I have a MKI in .177. I’m only pushing 15 fpe but I love it! It’s wood and iron like yours so I have a strong sense of the attraction that you have for yours. These are hard to resist.

Beautiful grain sure does make a gun and yours is very nice. I have a laminate, an Impact, and the rest are synthetic. As much as I love a sexy piece of walnut, I can't believe I don't have a walnut stocked air gun. Yours looks terrific, Dana's Evol has a beautiful chunk of wood on it and the most recent shipments of Matador R5M air guns have some of the best grain I've ever seen. There's just too many great gun and scope choices these days and I do not have enough money! LOL The walnut Evol with the new Meopta sure would be a sweet rig! Enjoy your new gun, she's a beauty, yours too Brett!

Brett, that is some good looking wood you have on your Wildcat. How do you like the magazine holder? I'm trying to decide what I want to do for mag holders, and on the fence about an after market moderator. The OEM FX one is pretty darn good for only being a small empty can. I tested a Ronin and an Emperor on it. The Ronin pretty much was on par with the FX OEM, and the Emperor was better but it is heavy on the free floating barrel/shroud. Anyone have any direct comparisons of any of these to the Shogun? It has less volume than the Ronin, but is 1.75" longer.

Best style mag holder right here, lol. Scope rail with mag holder incorporated.

Made by Jefferson State Air Rifles. Three mags snap right into the scope rail. They make a picatinny style and a dovetail.

Theres one for sale in the classifieds right now, may be moved into page two of three.

I like the magazine holder Loren. It’s the one DonnyFL offers. Mine has worked fine so far but I’m pretty easy on my stuff too. I’m not out in the woods dragging it through the bush or anything like that. I have 4 mags and I always keep at least one loaded and in the mag holder just in case i need something to take a pest out. I haven’t needed it yet but I’m ready!
