.22 cal. I was about 25 yards away. Standing. 

I was tracking an armadillo who was running away from me.. I was walking along, and looking to my left where I last saw the armadillo. I glanced to my right to make sure I wasn't going to step on a cactus or rock or whatever, when I saw this stinky bastard staring at me. I'm certain that I would have been sprayed if I had kept walking. I turned the gun, and quickly plugged him with a body shot, followed up with a well placed head shot.

"MattChastain"I found that if you get them with a solid heart shot they will almost never spray. Especially if they don't feel threatened before the shot. Pretty nice trick if you are trying to get rid of them around the house.

Mine was a neck shot and it didn't spray it died by his hole and didn't have to put up with him. All head shots and skunks I've done they just spray about 5 min after the shot.

Nice, I have killed one with my .177 gamo elite spring piston. Lol I was putting tools back in my garage at about 1:30 Am and walked in to one about 15 to 20 feet away. I set my tools down ran inside grabed and loaded the gun. Spun the zoom on the scope down to 3x. I also grabed a flashlight and went back out. Well holding the flashlight and gun somehow i found a fuzzy image of a skunk in the scope took the luckiest shot in the world and almost instantly killed it. I believe it was a head shot but I never looked as it sprayed about 40 sec after I shot it. I ran back inside before it let off its stink. I was cheering and yelled to my sister I got the skunk. Lol she herd me yelling and smelled the skunk and thought I was speayed. The funny part is that since it sprayed I didn't collect it right away. I left it dead which lol was right in front of my neighbors car. I was going to get rid off f it in the morning I am a college student and wake up at the crack of 11:30 ish where as my neighbor who leaves for work at 4:30 am and well walking to his car saw the skunk and instinctively kicked it and ran backwards all at the sametime. He ended up throughout it in his garbage. I told him what hapned and he didn't care I have awesome neighbors.

Head shot will spray every time. Body usually not but no guarantees.
Try not to let em see you, skunks have poor vision but pick up motion pretty well.
If it sees you and its hurting it will spray. If and when it does hydrogen peroxide
baking soda and a little dish soap will neutralize the smell. Put it in a pump up sprayer
to treat kill sight. Be careful not to walk through and take shoes off before going into house
car, etc . And yes all I know was learned the hard way. LOL
