Vortex HST 4-16x44 Review

Hey everyone, I just bought this scope a few days ago and not even mounted on my Royale, so the things i'm going to say here are just based on first thoughts. This model is the Miliradian with a mil reticle (SFP, calibrated at 16x). One of the strong points of this scope are the turrets. In comparison with other scopes of it's price points i think it hardly has a competitor, with firm, solid and audible clicks it gives you the feeling of a well constructed scope and precition on the adjustments (as i said, i haven't had the chance yet to make a box test so this is just the feeling you have when dialing). I'll try to make a video about the turrets when mounted on the gun.

Another strong point is the weight, at just 20.8oz it's a fairly light scope considering it's 30mm tube and features, so it keeps things nice and light

I've beeing trying to find chromatic aberration with no luck at all,

Notes:

- My cellphone is far away from having a good camera, so keep in mind the pics do not make justice to what you actually see though the scope. Plus some of the pictures were taken on a cloudy day with not a whole bunch of light

- It comes with bikini lens covers, the flip-up ones you see on the pics are aftermarket

- The parallax markings are not that precise, but it doesn't bothers me that much

- Minimum parallax is 50yds, so keep that in mind

- Have I mentioned the turrets make you feel confident of each adjustment? Haha

I'll keep updating the post if necessary

The building on this last pic is 1.1km away and the mirage is doing it's job on making things appear blurry, that's not the scope

I am sure this scope will do what you want and if for some reason it has a problem you will get it taken care of fast with no questions. A quick note on the parallax. If you want a vortex that has more airgun friendly parallax distances in the future try the diamondback tactical or the Viper pst gen 2. The diamondback tactical is 10 yards and the pst gen2 is 25 yds. I have 4 vortex scopes 1 diamondback tactical, 1 viper pst gen1 and 2 viper pst gen2. I click adjust with them all and even to their maximum adjustment with no worries of consistency, damage or other issues. My experience has been very good.

I've thought about the diamondback line but the turrets didn't caught my eye, since they are not as good as the ones on the Viper hst or pst, and I really care about the feedback the turrets give me when dialing. That gives me a plus in confidence when shooting. And even though i haven't seen through one myself, i'd think that considering the price difference that's not just the only difference. But coming from vortex and keeping in mind we are not exactly talking about a "budget scope", i bet that's a great option too.

Don't shy away from the diamond backs because of price ,the turrets on my diamondbacks feel solid and click right into place. They are not a mushy guess. I have one on my AR10 and AR15 and POI are right on and have performed a box test offbags and they were as spot on as I could shoot. For a 200.00 scope its well worth it.Here the one mounted on my AR10..

The diamondback tactical doesnt have as positive clicks as the viper hst or pst but they are still solid and give confidence. The diamondback tactical is very clear as well and should be in the top running for airgunners to check into if they want a more budget friendly option thats still solid and clear with 10 yard parallax. The viper pst gen2 would be the top choice if it fit the buyers budget and 25 yd parallax works for their type of shooting.

Another pro i forgot to mention is the zero stop, although not tanking about an exact zero stop system where you can select the exact place to stop, it still works how's designed to with a solid stop, in my case with 0.6 mil of travel left to make adjustmets on the down direction (that's nice since at 25m a 0.5mil hold-under is required).

And a few more pictures while leveling the scope, setting the zero stop and once everything's done!

I Still need to make some propper testing to the turrets, and not just a box test but how precise the adjustments are in relation to the marking on the caps.
