VIP warranty to the rescue.

I won't go into details about how my RWS 34 .22 dropped scope first onto my garage floor. The Vortex Crossfire II 4-12 X took the full gun weight impact on the objective end. It got the tube bent down towards the gun compression tube by .145 thousandths. The rifle just laid over on its' side with not even a scuff. whew!

A call to Vortex resulted in good news and a return authorization number. They will send out a new replacement upon receipt of the the damaged scope. In 55 years of gun handling I never had an accident like this happen. Thank you Vortex.

I had the same thing happen to my D52, I was being cheap and was in the process engineering a base for my fieldpod so I could use it on my patio. Well the base skated and down went my D52, the Vortex Diamondback bore the brunt of the fall. Sent it in to Vortex and they quickly sent another one out to me. I have since switched to Sightron, but if I ever get a beater rifle to strap to my side by side it will be wearing my Vortex Diamondback :)

That's good to hear you got replacement. Usually if it's owners fault they dropped the scope and break it. The company won't cover it under their warranty.

Vortex is great company.

It has happened with me that one of my Vortex scopes developed a fault. I am from such a country from where I cant send the scope back to US. I told all this to Vortex and they arranged a new scope for me.

That is VVIP warranty for me.

I only use Vortex scopes.

Sightron optics are top quality for sure, but their warranty, like many other manufacturers, is second to Vortex. Don't drop your Sightron.😬

VVIP...I like that, mubhaur.

I bought that Crossfire in fall of 2018, it had 16K shots fired on that RWS 34 .22. No failures of any kind during that time, very repeatable sight adjustments. In short has been a great scope for me. In the text section of the return form I asked them to do an autopsy of sorts on the internals for airgun vibration wear with 16K vibration cycles.

The vortex warranty is second to none really.

I got an email from Vortex yesterday stating my damaged scope was received by them. I was provided a service order number and will again be contacted when it is repaired or a replacement scope is on the way to me. The statement below was the last paragraph of the text.

Well Rooster, ....might as well fess up how this mishap happened. I am in my house loading some 7mm-08 ammo for next weeks match. My wife is tending to her flower gardens in the back yard. She comes indoors to tell me there is a huge hole dug into her raised bed flower box. The culprit is out sunning it self next to the hole. A cottontail bunny just finished up a nesting burrow. I grab one of my nearby 34's, dial the objective to 10 yds and insert a HN FTT .22. I cut through the door leading into the garage for a best vantage point aim. Yep, he is still there 18" up perched in the flower bed. It was an easy off hand 40 foot shot behind the eye for an instant kill.

I look for a place to set the gun down while collecting up the varmint. AHHH , just lay it on top of the plastic trash lid for now. Just as I put the bunny in a bag I hear the terrible sound of the rifle hitting the floor. I drop the critter and make a dash for the garage. NOOOOOO...CRAP...then a river of cussing words follow.

The weight of the rifle caused the domed trash can lid to sag throwing the balance off. Down she went for a scope first impact. Rough drop was 30 inches. The objective got a big cement scrape but still turned like new. The scope tube was visibly bent down at the front ring. Not even a scratch anywhere on the 34....weird.

I guess this is what they mean by "life" happening.

LOL....Yep. $### happens sometimes. Don't feel too bad about it. I'm sure you're like me and take very good care with your guns. To be honest....I would be relieved that the scope took the damage and not your rifle. Let us know when this is all fixed up and you get your replacement. I would imagine they will just replace rather than repair.
