Video - Seeing which weight pellet would spin my spinner target

I took the time today to make another video.

I have a metal spinner target that I like to shoot at. Only problem is - some of my air rifle / pellet weight combinations won't flip the paddles.

So, here's what I did:
I used my FX .22 Royale 400 to shoot three different weights of pellets at the spinner target. The three weights were 14 gr, 18 gr and 21 gr.

After shooting those three weights of pellets, I grabbed my FX Wildcat .25 and shoot it at the spinning target. I shot a 25 gr pellet from the Wildcat.

Here's the results:

I guess I know which pellets I'll be buying for my Royale in the future

I have that same target and was hoping it would work for rimfire as it says its rated for that, I havent taken it outta the box yet and tried it. I would be using 40Gr at 1200 FPS. from the looks of that 25Gr .25 cal was spinning it pretty hard, maybe I should try it at 40-50 yards first?

Have you chrony tested that .25 cal 25 Gr pellet? Maybe I could do some math and then adjust my yardage accordingly.

My .22 rimfire spins the fool out of it. You'd have absolutely no problem with a .22 shooting 40 gr at 1200 fps. Even my .22 Quiets with their low fps - the box says 710 fps - have no problem spinning it.

I have my Caldwell G2 chrony setup in my garage and I'll shoot a few of the .25 cal 25 gr through it today and let you know what speeds I'm getting.

Check back on here later.

I went and shot 16 pellets (25.39 JSB Diablo Exact Kings) from my .25 Wildcat (started at 220 bar) and here are the numbers:

Avg - 893.4 fps
St dev - 3.7 fps
Min - 886 fps
Max - 900 fps
Spread - 14 fps
Mean vel - 893 fps

Energy, avg - 893.4 psi = 45.01 ft-lb
Energy, min - 886 psi = 44.26 ft-lb
Energy, max - 900 psi = 45.67 ft-lb

Chronograph used: Caldwell G2

BTW, a 40 gr .22 bullet traveling at 1200 fps would yield 127.93 ft-lb of energy
and one of my 40 gr .22 Quiets at 710 fps would yield 44.97 ft-lb of energy (that's close to what my .25 Wildcat is getting on the lower velocities, and the Wildcat is getting better energies at the higher velocities).
Take care,
Bobby

"Bobbed06"wow! Thanks so much for the info. It looks like i better switch to the low velocity quiets to get the energy down.

I will look around and see what I can find locally in the quiet selections. I have been gettin out, I wore my old steel spinners out! This is the replacement.
I've only shot my spinner target with high velocity .22 rounds a few tines, but MANY times with the Quiets - no damage is evident, I'm not sure how well the paddles would hold up to being hit continually by high-velocity rounds, though.

Been a while since I visited this thread. I still have my 2 spinner targets and still shoot them regularly. Anyway, I now have a Q Erector silencer on my Ruger American .22 bolt action rifle. All I hear is a soft "pop" when I pull the trigger on a "Quiet", the gong I hit is much louder than the shot. My .22 FX Royal 400 can work the target, so can my .22 Daystate Wolverine R (with a pellet weighing at least 21 gr). My .25 Daystate Wolverine HP R and my .25 Air Venturi Avenger can also work the spinner, don't much matter what pellet they shoot.
