Very bad buying experience at Dvor.com BEWARE!

Short story about a buying experience at Dvor.com. I bought a new Hawke scope from Dvor and got a good deal. The scope shipped and arrived at my home well packaged and in a timely manner on Thursday 9/24. Unfortunately when I opened the package things went downhill rapidly. The Hawke box was not wrapped in cellophane (like every other new Hawke scope I have bought) and there was a bar code label on the box that was not applied by Hawke. I opened the box to find a scope that I suspect was a return or demo because it was obviously not new. The scope has very obvious ‘ring marks’ and ‘ring dents’ from being installed, the cover for the battery is scratched and dinged where it looks like someone used pliers to get it off, the turrets are not optically centered as they should be from the factory and of course the scope box was not wrapped in cellophane. I immediately called the Dvor customer service number and got a recording saying that they are overwhelmed with business and calls and everything else so please be patient. The phone system put me into voice mail even though the recording states that voice mails WILL NOT be returned (that’s convenient). I left a voice mail anyway with all of my contact information and a brief description of my problem. Then I went to their online contact form and wrote a paragraph detailing all of the information, told them I would be happy to send them photos of everything, left all of my contact info and order number. Then I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally a week later (Thursday 10/1) I get some form Email back simply restating their return policy. Nothing to address the fact that they sent me a used scope when I paid for a new one. So, why don’t I just return the scope I am not happy with? Dvor has a return policy that is not what most of us would consider user friendly. No exchanges, no refunds, you will get store credit only. Even if they completely misrepresent by sending you a used product when you paid for a new product. Another problem is their return policy states;

Unfortunately, Dvor is unable to accept returns, at any time, for the following:

  • Installed goods

If I was to return this scope and someone inspected it carefully they would deny my return eligibility due to the fact that the scope is clearly “installed goods”. The reason it is installed goods is because that is what they sent me, previously installed goods!

Here are a couple of photos.

Yes, looks used. Catch-22 when you return it since it was installed. If you paid with Paypal, you can dispute. if you paid with credit card you can charge back as a last resort. I would go to the BBB website and leave a complaint...that would help others.

The BBB is worthless.  They are funded by dues paid by the businesses that belong to it. When I had my own business I belonged. The BBB always takes the side of the business unless they aren't a member. When a repair shop attempted to bill me for parts without any receipts, the BBB closed the complaint with "XYZ Transmissions reports customer is satisfied with work" and they closed the complaint in their favor.

I suspect the Dvor is an outlet for Optics Planet where they can sell returned items and overstocks. I've bought a number of scopes from them and got very good deals, IMO. My recent purchase was a Sightron S3 with an MOA-H reticle. I saved over 300 bucks. I've been happy with all my purchases, but if you are not, just return it.

They are a sister company of Optics Planet mainly selling overstocked and discontinued items at a discount. I had no idea they sold used returns up until right now. I see no reason not to send it back and put a dispute on your credit card with photo documentation and hand written notes with dates and times on your numerous attempts to get in contact with them.

Someone here returned a scope to them not that long ago and got a refund FYI...

I would think that scope manufacturer could be useful as well since you have a receipt but unfortunately if it isn't defective you may get it straight back to you Will a clean bill of health and the free ring marks (same damn scope).

That was me, about two months ago or so.

I purchased a Nikko Stirling FFP scope which the glass was so so so bad. I complained about the quality and returned it. I didn’t realize that they had a questionable return policy until after I purchased it. After a long email, and letting them know I purchased from them before, they agreed to refund me minus shipping.

I probably won’t buy a scope from them again.

Is that (your) Sightron SIII a 40 yard minimum focus model? Gold or white labeling on the scope itself? Just curious thats all. Comparing notes!

That sounds like a BIG FAT RACKET SCAM!!!

BBB or not....going to the BBB and expecting a resolution is different from what I said: if you leave a complaint on the BBB website it will help others. You may be able to help others making a decision about doing business with that company. Just like here on this forum, if you voice your experience with that company it can help others avoid it or at least to assess their own risks.
