Venture With An Electronic Scope (ATN X-Sight II HD 5x20)

Ok, in doing more research, my intuition is telling me that the majority of the owner's issue may be the lack of experience with electronic devices. I'm not saying I am an expert because I've had my share of ruining several battery operated electronic devices in the past. That said, I have another opportunity to ruin another electronic device. YES, I ordered and received an ATN X-Sight II and it's staring me right in the face as we speak (~ dagnabbit Amazon prime!) Please, I mean no offense to anyone out there.

Expect it to be heavy, bulky, and most of all power hungry. You will be playing with it for a long time when you first get it so don't expect a fresh set of 4AA alkaline batteries to last. I recommend using an external battery source and cord (if you don’t have male/male micro-USB to USB) such as what BenGun recommended on another post. After installing 4AA alkaline batteries, within less than an hour going over the features, the low battery indicator came on during my first attempt using the video feature. I happen to have an external battery charger for my family's phones. I removed the batteries, plugged in the external source (making sure the external source is turned on), hold the power button for several seconds and viola, it powered up. After about 3 hours later, I found no issues. Note, I did not want to update the firmware to 2.1.03.554 since all functions were working fine.

A CON I see already is when it comes to pesting. It does not come with a fixed reticle to use with Chairgun or Strelok so you’re left in doubt on whether your shot will be an ethical kill. A fixed distance will have to be established to be 100% certain where your POI will be. In other words, if you're out walking about and a squirrel comes pops out, hopefully it's in the Kill Zone. I'm still learning this scope so please bear with me. Hopefully I can learn to teach and teach to learn from others out there with an X-Sight. This forum is much better than the atn forum when it comes to feedback. I'm not out for their free t-shirt but rather not be the only one walking back to camp at night.

Was able to escape this weekend and create a range card using the NP R2 reticle. I was able to record the range out to 95yds. Then had to create a new profile for 100yds because at 100yds, the POI fell under the reticle. When I was done creating my range card I ranged random objects scattered along the road to verify my range card. Here's a quick video after collecting my data. Plus the clip where I accidentally left It on the profile set for 100 yards and forgot to change the profile back to general shooting. So far I Likey this scope 😀

Got the X-Sight out today, first time use with .619 Firmware and it Froze up 3 times within a half hour requiring the battery door to be removed to re start. I tried to create another profile for 100 yards and not able to create a new profile, every time I tried one would be shown with mumbo jumbo digits and after deleting and trying to start over the same bug appeared.

Hands down the most frustrating piece of Electronic's ever, and there was no user error involved. The first freeze up happened when attempting to change the Reticle. Second was attempting to access the Menu, third was trying to use the one shot zero feature.

Dartagnan, are you experiencing Software Freeze Ups?

Shooter- Sorry to hear you're having issues man. The trend I see with the XSight is people having issues whenever they're on battery power. I opted remove the battery and strictly use battry charger such as the RAV BATTERY PACK. Actually this is exactly what I'm using and it gave me a solid 6hrs of use. My thinking is when using video and WiFi, it drains the battery much faster (depending on the type of battery being used). And when the power gets low, it causes a hiccup in the programming. So my recommendation, if you dont mind the extra weight, is to ONLY use a separate external battery pack to power up the XSight. Batteries suck!!! Anyway

IF you're still having glitches WHILE using an external battery pack, try SELECTING "restore factory defaults" (with no sd card inserted) once done turn off the XS, THEN insert a micro-card with the 619 firmware update on a quality mirco-card and restart. Power on the XS and IF it starts to update then let it run completely. You're XS may shut off and on a couple times to completely install the update. So be patient. Hopefully that will resolve your issue and get back to shooting...on external battery only.

Thanks for the Tip Dartagnan. I am using the ATN External Battery, and using Lithium AA's. ATN in one of my several Tech Support calls, instructed me to keep AA Batteries in the compartment, but maybe things have changed with the new Firmware? I am not using Wifi or GPS, trying to keep things simple.

ATN really needs to address these failures.

I will follow your tips and report back.

I removed the Lithium AA's and I am only running on External Battery, did the restore to factory defaults and re installed .619 Firmware. Which seemed to correct the Freeze Up issue, but now the Zoom Magnification Numbers have been replaced with a up/down arrow and next to it is the Magnifying Glass Symbol, still Zooms but now also shows CAL in the Compass area? I searched thru the Menu and did not see CAL or Calibrate anywhere?

I set up a Profile for 25 Yards, but could not get Rifle to Group? Would get crazy flyers like I have never seen before? My next step was to create a Profile for 50 Yards but since I could not get a group at 25 I gave up.

I am going to dig thru the online manual and see if I can find anything on the CAL setting?

Totally Frustrated

Spent several hours, 3 tanks of air @ 150 shots with the X-Sight this morning, no freeze ups, but still can not get good groups at 25 Yards? I re zeroed immediately when my POI was 6+ inches from POA and then again when I was able to get one 3 shot group, after doing so my groups tightened up but where still terrible, sometimes I could hit a 3/8 Bull but most shots where scattered? I gave up, tried everything I could, but felt like I was chasing my tail.

I did everything I could to obtain tight groups, shot early this AM when there was no wind, using a one piece rest with Rifle locked down and even tried it somewhat loose. I am using JSB 15.89 pellets, single shot adapter, etc.I was never expecting Bench Rest accuracy but these results are not acceptable.

At this moment I can not say with 100%, that there is still a bug in the Software causing my issues but I do suspect so. Unfortunately I do not have another Rifle to test it out on except for my Springers which I may not get the best results with.

My Rifle HW100 .22 has less than 500 shots thru it, all using the X-Sight II since new. I have a unused Scope that I was planning on putting on another Rifle, but I think I will now order a mount and try out this new Scope on my HW100 to help determine the issue.

I suspect the Scope is the culprit, because when I first received the Scope I was shooting Silhouettes at varying distances with rarely a miss, then when I would repeatedly miss, I would check the Scope and find it froze up requiring a reboot, after reboot it would shot well again until the next freeze up.

Also today I tried a power cycle turning unit off and back on and first shot was 6 inches off, in about the same area as my first shot was this morning before re zeroing? second shot was a bull and then back to scattered shots?

Open to any and all suggestions.

I haven't experienced a freeze up in my scope, yet but does the picture remain still on the screen when it freezes up? So can tell before taking the shot your screen is frozen, correct? Are you using the SAME tin of pellets that was shooting good OR did you change tin since then. Even the same brand and weight of pellets can result in dirfferent POI. Try cleaning your barrel and shoot a full clip and see where it all grouped.
Try changing the power cords going to your scope if you can. Hopefully ATN didn't hardware it to the battery pack. And of course, is your battery fully charged?

Hey Dartagnan,

Yes the Picture always remained on the screen and I would not know it was in the frozen state until I would attempt to push any of the buttons and they would not respond requiring the batteries to be disconnected. It looks like the latest firmware has corrected the freeze up condition.

In hindsight, I did make a huge mistake by not putting a traditional scope on my Rifle and getting a baseline for accuracy, this is my first PCP and I guess I just had unrealistic expectations. I am now going to start over with a traditional scope. The battery pack is not hardwired to the battery pack, and so far no issues that I am aware of with the battery or cable. I try and always keep the battery fully charged, and have removed the expensive lithium batteries from the battery compartment, nice not having to use or purchase those anymore.

I purchased a HDMI Monitor so I could see all the widgets and not have to use WiFi, but when using WiFi with my Ipad I always had a smooth video stream. The HDMI Monitor works really well and I much prefer it over looking thru the eyepiece all the time, especially when setting it up and going thru the Menu.

Thanks, I really enjoy shooting the Silhouettes.

I am in the process of making up my mind whether to buy an ATN X-Sight II, in 5 x 20. With that in mind, I have a couple of question to the two here who do indeed own one.

First, I wonder why the 5 x 18 costs more money than the 5 x 20. Do you know why?

And, now that you all have had one for at least a week, do you still have any misgivings (buyer's remorse)?

Lastly, I see one of the units is mounted on a Mrod, and I curious which scope mount was used? I think I know, but not sure.

Thanks for the answers, and it you wish to take it off line, my email address is: [email protected]
