UTG 4-16x56 Bubble Leveler AO Scope Review

Hey guys,

Got to try out my new scope today and thought I'd post.

I'm not sure how much quality I should expect from a $200 scope but I think they could have done better.

1st, the clarity and brightness are good. I have no complaints there. Even up to 16 power it's pretty good.

Eye relief is very user friendly at lower magnification, meaning you can move a good bit for and aft and maintain a good site picture. It gets more finicky at higher settings, but I would expect that. Really user friendly.

The zero re-set on the turrets is something I had to fiddle with to make it work. The screws on the tops have to be loosened up all the way and then you have to lift up the turret adjuster. It takes some fiddling to get them to go far enough up so that they can be re-set. But it does work.

I like the cross hairs. They are thinner than my old Bushnell Banner, but not too thin. In broad daylight I can't see the lighted cross hair feature. In the evening when the light got a bit lower, it showed up nice. It's a nice feature.

The adjustable parallax is really nice. It turns easy enough that I don't really need the big wheel that comes with it. The range numbers on it are a bit too small for these old eyes but I can live with it. Maybe I'll end up putting something on it that I can see better. The numbers appear to be pretty close to accurate. I have measured landmarks in my yard at 30-50 and 70 yards and the scope matched it fairly close.

The only real gripes I have are about the level.

1. I can't see the bubble when I'm aiming. It's so far down it's out of my site picture.

2. The bubble isn't level. OR, should I say, when I tilt so that the bubble is in the center, the cross hairs are not level.

I tried to take pictures of it with my phone camera and here's one. The gun is on a rest and I have the bubble in the center.

I put a carpenters level about 15 yards away to check it with .

Other than the level, I like the scope.

Edit, I emailed PA about the level. Hopefully they will take it back and exchange it.

I've seen a couple of pictures on the net and they didn't look like mine. In those, you can easily see the level.

I've had mine a year. Great scope for the money...crappy level system. I have one on my .25 Gen 1 Wildcat with a set of FX no limit rings and I love it. Very bright, accurate parallax (I use a wheel), very sharp clear crosshairs and good glass. IMHO the built in level was a waste of money though. It gets buried down at the bottom and you just cant find it.

I particularly like the super adjustable crosshair illumination system. On the lower settings, I find that green is great while night hunting varmints. I will buy UTG again but I think I'll skip the built in level and save the $30- $40.

I called and talked to a woman at PA today.

I was hoping I could get them to simply look at a few scopes in their inventory and see if they are good, or are like mine. She said they cannot.

I have to send mine back , and the warranty/service guys will verify that mine is bad, then they will pull one for shipping and check it before it goes out.

Pending their judgment, I'll get one back that got blessed or I'll be moving up to a different one...

I some others that were on my list to own so I'm OK either way but it would be nice if that level actually worked.

:)

OK, 2nd scope arrived.

PA sent it to me in reasonable time so that's good but they didn't do what they said they would do and they kept my AO wheel! I'm not impressed. I've spent a truck load of money with them over the years and apparently they don't care.

1. The package was unopened/sealed which means that PA didn't inspect the scope like she said they would.

2. The original scope came with a free wheel for AO. I returned it with the scope and they didn't send one out with the new scope. SO now I don't have a wheel.

3. Mounted and sighted in, the issue with the level is the same as the 1st one. It can't be seen when I'm aiming. If I get my eye high enough and look down it's there but you can't shoot that way.

4. I set up a carpenters level about 15 yards out to aim at and put my gun on a rest and adjusted it so the the bubble is in the center. The cross hairs are not level. It's the same as the one I returned.

While I was trying to get some pictures I learned something. If put my camera right behind/touching the scope it sees the level. While doing that, if I move the camera a little side to side, the bubble moves. WITHOUT moving the gun. That said, even if the bubble was visible it's "level" would be different for different shooters??

Moving forward, I'll keep the scope. Since the level isn't in my way when I'm shooting I'm just going to forget about it. The optics are great and the lighted cross hairs feature is kinda neat.

Maybe I'll call them and ask abut the wheel but I need to do that after I calm down. I"m pretty frustrated with them right now.
