USPS---No wonder they're broke

Mike, I understand your frustration. I realize that a person placing 2 packages on your porch right below your address which belong elsewhere, is illogical. The dumbing down of America is complete. Just like years ago when teachers were in short supply, large school systems would hire almost anyone. They called them teachers, but some were just babysitters so parents could work. They were not allowed to discipline the children.

They needed teachers, and they hired whoever they could. The same is happening in all walks of life across America (maybe even the world). Industry hires who they can, pays them as little as possible, often with no benefits or hope of permanent employment. We have millions of workers who simply do not care. It’s no secret that all the delivery companies hire a lot of temporary help from Thanksgiving until the end of the year. They may not live in the area they work in. They may not be able to read or write. They are working long hours, sometimes at night using flashlights, in areas where they are unfamiliar with the streets. If you don’t hire who you can, you will have no one. Every time you hire an employee, you take a chance. They may be good, they may be bad, and when they are things will happen such as you experienced.

All I can recommend to people ordering things for delivery is this: expect every order you place for delivery to arrive 2-4 weeks from the time of ordering, or only buy what you can find in your local stores where you can put your hands on the product. That’s the way it’s going to be at least until we have Covid well under control.

Carl- please dont think I'm frustrated. I started this topic for everyone to talk about their experiences. It would let people vent, talk about something we all have in common instead of the Bidden/Trump conflict and day to day poop. And yes our hard working country is slipping away, dumbing down as you said. I retire in March next year, I really feel sorry for anyone that owns a manufacturing business. The people my employer wants me to train have a hard time making it to work on time. It has come to a point that if they haven't got their 90 days in I will not train them. It's a shame what things have come to. I come from a generation that gave 100% to do a good job . I have pride in my work, doesn't matter if it's building a rapid deployment system or cleaning my bathroom, I give it my best shot. Our wonderful country has gotten lazy and that is a shame.

Have an absolutely wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas to you and all.

I just retired unexpectedly for the same reason. I didn’t jump the gun a couple years ago when I first noticed it but I got to the point where I was going to thump one of these new breed employees and jeopardize my pension. I worked in a very dangerous volatile place. The new gen or millennial employees with this I don’t care or it’s all about me attitude were making the place even more dangerous. I had to bail 3 years earlier than planned. Now I wait for packages.

The other carriers aren't any better. I ordered a part from Serbia, it was shipped via DHL. In 3 days, it made it from Serbia entering the U.S. in Cincinnati, then through Memphis, the Destination Facility in Mobile, AL, about an hour from my house. It sat in Mobile for 4 days and then went to China! It was back in the States 3 days later, and made it back to Mobile 2 days later and was delivered the next day! So yea, it did essentially circumnavigate the world!

O.K, you win. I thought I had the win with my pellet order from Utah.

It went from Utah to California (destination state), then quickly (air) to North Carolina, then slowly (ground) all the way back across the U.S. to California, then quickly (air) back to North Carolina a second time, then slowly (ground) all the way back across the U.S. for final delivery ~ 3.5 weeks after the order.

I won't name the shipping company but when I called FedEx 'Customer Service' they told me "there is nothing we can do, you have to talk with the company you purchased the product from." Nothing you can do? But YOU have it in YOUR possession! But then I called the company I bought it from. They said yeah, we've seen that before. But you chose the free shipping option so what do you expect?

Satisfaction across the board for me on that purchase. And such incredible help from Customer Service entities!

UPS still continues to perform the best for me. Seems like their operations were the most robust to allow scale-up for the COVID based, huge increase of 'stay at home, buy and have it shipped'.

But what I have also seen is that different carrier services seem to excel in different geographic regions. So one has to figure out which one works best specifically for the area where they live.

Digger-Because of my sons passing I got meet hundreds and hundreds of people involved in the drift racing community. I will tell ya they are a hard working bunch with a lot of respect. Definitely a work hard play hard bunch.

TMH-yeah I think Flgunner has got ya beat.

Ramjet-oh that's gotta suck. Kind of like pumpkin pie and no whip cream.

My experience is USPS is by far the worst and this predates COVID. Only USPS has left packages by the road, in the rain, instead of putting the, on the porch.

Yeah....been there, done that and would have got the t-shirt for it but USPS lost it in transit. (lol) just kidding but they have left my packages by my mail box 100 yards away.

I'm a UPSer. 20 years. Part time in the air division.

This year is something we have never seen. People are ordering online more than ever before. (Just look at all the comments in here about new rifles or stocking up on ammo) It's so easy just to click on the screen and have it ordered. But trucks and planes can only hold so many pieces and so much weight. Hubs can only process so many pieces. Our hub usually processes two jets (one A-300 and one 767) and dozens of trucks per shift. For weeks we've been doing four jets and 3-6 extra 53' trailers. And all those trucks arriving full. Most of us have seen a doubling in our hours.

Even with the best planning, there are some things these companies can't adapt to. Jets, trucks, and man hours can't just magically appear because of a pandemic.
