USPS Lost $500 Barrel Shipment

Sold my .25 Impact Barrel, Probe, and Mag to tinsoldier in GA a month ago. Mailed it out Priority in a 28x8x8 box same day he paid. USPS promptly LOST the package. It's now been a month and an official Search request has turned up nothing. Didn't buy additional insurance as I've never had USPS damage or lose anything - until now. So do NOT ship out using USPS unless you insure for Full Value and make sure you have an original invoice and proof of your buying the additional insurance or they will deny your claim - they're very good at not paying out insurance claims. How do you lose a box that big? Didn't fall between the cracks on the sorting machine. Possible that Fedex lost it between Boston and Atlanta since they handle all Priority, Express, and First Class for USPS between regions. Thank You USPS for putting me half a grand in the hole.

MOD EDIT: moved to General

I have the same problem with USPS, they lost my package when I shipped international. I shipped my Bobcat stock to VietNam to make it in wood. Before I send it, I asked really careful to make sure it would make it to the country. They said it wouldn't have any problem since I was buying the insurance for it. After 3 months of waiting....they lost it of course. Do the file claim, still have no luck and they give me NOTHING ($100shipped + $295stock). All I got is SORRY.
So, I hope u have better luck than me...
Sorry to hear your pain!!!

USPS lost one of my $350 laser heads. I had to re-submit my claim 3 times, as the first two claims were denied. What made matter worse, is I got it at a special price when I bought it, a deal which was no longer available. They only paid the special price I got it for, and not enough to replace it. I had it insured for the full $350.00
USPS is not my favorite shipping company.

I personally don't ship anything USPS. Good with small envelopes, not so much with boxes.
I sent a Xmas gift to a gf a couple years ago at her vacation spot in CO, USPS said "they don't get mail there" and I never saw the gift again.
I have since converted to the privatized shipping companies because that is their business, and if they didn't deliver (no pun intended) they don't exist; meanwhile the USPS is still a government entity.

I guess it's been the other way around for me because USPS has been nothing but good to me. I live in Guam and I've been using USPS for over 25 years with thousands of dollars in merchandise shipped to me from the states. Never had a problem with USPS. We really don't have a choice here because UPS and FedEx charge an arm and a leg out here.

I live in Puerto Rico and have been using USPS for years with no problems at all. On the other hand, UPS once lost a package, but that can happen to anybody, anytime. What I really don't like about UPS is that and they don't deliver to my rural address! Every package sent to me by UPS means a trip to their local store, about 50 minutes round trip. I recognize that my place is a little complicated to reach, but USPS always delivers packages to my door, if I am home, of course. FedEx is efficient, but too expensive.
