USPS BEWARE PEOPLES-!

I had similar issues with USPS a few months ago when I had a lot more boxes coming. I have a 6 inches x 5 inches mailbox and larger boxes are delivered to the door. The problems surfaced on those days when there was a substitute mail carrier. If I had a package missing I knew that they had the substitute working. He was working with about a 5-10% error rate...which is about 50-100 packages from every 1000 delivered in my neighborhood.

I went to the main USPS Office in my area so many times to file missing mail that they knew me already by sight. They eventually moved the substitute carrier off my route to probably annoy some others elsewhere. I also put several large-lettered labels inside my box and on the inside of the mailbox door as it opens with my name address.

You can also file "missing mail" on the USPS website that get directed to your local "main" USPS office and they responded within a day usually. Of course, there is not much they are going to do but can save time and also keeps an electronic trail when you file missing mail. The post master suggested to use "signature confirmation", but that's just a band-aid for the severe problem USPS is causing by its own negligence. The ultimate solution would be privatization and true competition.

Ultimately, anything of value I try to send and receive via anything but USPS now.

Sounds like an opportunity to me. As a registered pharmacist you can start an airgun department in your pharmacy!

I would think so , if in fact I owned a pharmacy. I spent most of my professional career in military and civilian hospital settings.

I just thought, during the holiday season I often have packages scheduled for delivery by UPS, shown as out for delivery and then get notice no one available to receive packages. Two things wrong with that, package did not require signature and I was home all day. Driver just did not want to come out here to deliver .

Never had a problem with USPS,I do get to know my mailman and he always places the big packages inside my basement door...I am lucky,Fed-Ex...they can be scary they ,leave packages in plain sight....UPS...I do not like them, still ok....now the kicker DHL.....oh my what quick and great service I get from them.....5 days from China!!!....there will always be problems of some kind, waiting for something can be the biggest one.

Odoyle, I sure can relate and sympathize. I recently bought a used prophet from a member here, 3 day delivery, and it’s just gone. No tracking updates past initial post office. So much for my birthday gift. Now I’m at the mercy of the seller, who is trying to collect on a claim and I am out $1500. I went from pissed to depressed over the last couple weeks, and have had almost enough to give up on this. I’ve never seen a hobby so prone to grift and underhanded behavior. Sorry for whining, but I’ve made myself sick over this entire thing.

kayaker aka Darell sent me a medium priority box with approximately 67 lbs. of lead. He built a wooden box to the inside dimension of the postal box, then taped it excessively. Tracking # provided stated Monday delivery, out for delivery was only message. I got box on Friday, there was a break in the cardboard box,The clear packing tape stopped the tear from enlarging. A knife cut was visible running length of the side. The wooden box inside screwed was then hit with an object which made the box split the full length running the full side length of the box. The wood fibers told a tell tale of the wood being pried outward. The PO has strict policies that prohibit ammunition. My guess they were looking for suspected illegal items.

I insured and sent a brand new $900 (MSRP) Leupold in for a custom reticle. After a week I called Leupold to make sure they got it. It didn't arrive. My scope fell off USPS tracking radar when it left my local post office. After countless efforts over two weeks to get USPS to find my scope they finally ACKNOWLEDGED they lost it!

I filed a claim .....DENIED.....insufficient proof of value.

Refiled claim with additional proof of purchase from eBay....DENIED.....still insufficient.

On the 30th day I was getting ready to mail my final allowed claim, to arbitration this time, with the help of eBay and TONS of eBay documentation not typically provide to buyers/sellers when Leupold sent me an email saying they received my scope.

Honesty kept me from walking that package to the mail box but I should have. It would have served USPS right to pay me after all the hours, worry and trouble they put me through.

There are horror stories about every shipper but USPS is on my No Fly list.

TWO Empty boxes received that were stamped received in damaged condition by USPS with an obvious futile attempt to retape one that didn't quite work out-

Unfortunately, USPS has a lot of lazy, unthinking morons working for them that don't give a crap and don't have any initiative to do the right thing. This gives the rest of them a bad name. That's big government for you.

The same could be said for any large organization. Big business shouldn’t get a pass either. I’ve had better luck with USPS than I have with FedEx. These shipping companies are all so large that I think it comes down to the quality of the people at the local level as to the kind of service you get.

Couple months ago I walked into a small local post office. Guy behind the counter started asking what the post office screwed up this time. I'd never seen or met the guy. Turns out people had been coming in the last week complaining about lousy service.

I did mention my niece in NY had mailed a Christmas card to me on December 9th that didn't arrive in Michigan until January 18th. Don't think I made his day. Generally have decent luck with the post office. Much more so than UPS or FedEx.
