Using a 600mm Slug “A” Liner for Pellets and Slugs

Hello AirgunNation Peoples,

Been on a mission to get a FX Crown .25 and a FX DreamPup .22 to shoot slugs accurately. Both airguns are equipped with 600mm barrels and slug “A” liners in their respective caliber. In the process of tuning and range testing I am coming to the conclusion that all projectiles, (pellets and slugs) shoot very well from the 600mm slug barrels! So, I’ve decided to stop the liner switching and shoot with the slug liners exclusively. Two weeks of range testing in different wind conditions and a handful of pest eliminations proved to me that the slug liner and pellet liners have relatively the same accuracy. Been air-gunning for 15+ years and new to slugs, but wow what a elevated level of energy transfer when impacting game and gong targets! Loud sounds like “POP! & POW!” High BC is real and I can’t get enough!

JoeKool thank you for doing the footwork!! I am looking at the new dreampup with the bottle and the 600 mm slightly liner to do exactly what you have done!! Very exciting to see your fantastic results. Once again thank you for your hard work and posting it!! Super excited to get that dreampup!!

It’s become my favorite .22 PCP! You’re gonna love it! Stay tuned for my super easy Dreamline power tune hack! I’ll make a separate thread/post on that. The Dreamline really, REALLY shoots slugs well!

I’ve been testing more V.K. and Nielsen slugs lately in my .25 Impact an .25 RAW. When I initially spoke to Nick, he said one of his other testers was having the best luck with the 36.2gr. I told him they shoot well, as do the 38gr. but my best accuracy out of both guns is with the 33.5gr slugs. I’d like to use heavier slugs for long range shooting but the 33.5gr are just so accurate with very little tuning(Impact) and no tuning(RAW) and still have a BC around .0965-.0970. That’s killer at 930-940fps!

Your groups are fabulous and very similar to what I’ve been shooting. I had a ten shot group at 100yds last week that would have been my best ever! It was about 7/16” but I pulled my tenth shot 2.2” right of the rest of the group. Heartbreaker, I wanted to cry!!! Lol Keeps me motivated though, knowing the slugs and guns can do it if I can!

Have a good one! Stoti

Great post I was somewhat concerned about your 25yard slug group till I saw the 50yard that's more like it. When I get my 700mm slug liner tuned it shoots them through the same hole at 25yards. Good to see more posts with the results you and many of us are starting to see. Yes, the pellets shoot just as well out of these slug liners that is a good thing.

Thanks Stoti!

I feel a gun like the Impact MKII with a 700mm slug liner and barrel could push up to 40 grain slugs at awesome velocities resulting in superb BC’s and accuracy. I’m staying on the conservative side with the 600mm barrel and liners. One, to conserve shot count and two, to avoid major modifications to reach out of this world speeds. I’ve seen what 870 to 900 fps can produce with 23 grain slugs from the DreamPup .22, and 915 to 960 fps gives me with the 33.5 grain from the Crown .25. Just ordered some NSA 31.7 grain slugs for the Crown .25. They should really move quickly! JMO, 21 grain for my DreamPup .22 and close to 30 grain for my Crown should perform perfectly! All the small game I hunt will be just as dead. Precision over power in my book.

Sounds like you have a couple of NICE airguns!

Happy Air-Gunning!

All groups above are at 50, yessir one liner and shoot whatever, digging that!

Mr. Kool, noticed your Crown 600mm was shooting 1008 fps with the JSB 25 grain pellets. What kind of tune/mods do you have on that rifle to get that velocity? I've been looking at purchasing a Crown .25 to go with my Impact 30. Just curious how much work it is to get the Crown 600mm to that level...

With help and tips from great guys on this forum, I learned that the FX Crown in its factory form has a hammer and spring but no weight. So, I cut and fitted a hammer weight that comes from a FX Streamline, or Wildcat. Now the hammer has more weight or inertia behind it, to hold the valve open longer. See the thread about this from this link:

https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/teaching-a-old-fx-crown-a-new-trick/

Waiting on a high output Huma regulator and a enlarged valve seat then I’ll fine tune some more.
