Used SCBA Air Tank Question

Hydro sticker is in photo #8 on far right side above the 12-14 band around the tank. Unfortunately you can't read it on the picture. Imho that's a lot of $ for a tank with less than a year left on it. Keep searching, I think you'll find a better deal! Be thinking about getting a compressor too. That way you can find expired tanks for much cheaper & as long as they're structurally sound you'll be "air independent". Never mind! Good til 2027!

I’m interested in purchasing this tank (by the way, could someone tell me where is the last hydro date on the tank in the photos? I tried looking but could not figure it out.):

I need an adapter and was wondering if this would work:

Also, would I need a different adapter if I wanted to fill it at a scuba dive shop?

Thanks,

Antoni

That tank looks pretty beat up IMHO. Impact damage on the surface could indicate delamination in the laminate of the tank which weakens the tank. Not saying it's happened to that tank but is possible.

You'll more than likely need to get it hydrotested before a shop will fill it. Should be $25-35 for that. If you have a fill site that you'll be dealing with they'll tell you what it needs. Yes, good til 2027. (Manufactured Sept. of 2012) BTW that particular tank in the photos is pretty beaten up. Looks like resin coating is already chipping down to CF wrap. See if there's one in better shape if you can.

So I picked up this on Craigslist. Is this a cga347? Maybe missing an o ring on the end? It looks like you could fill the tank with the little qd fitting on the side, then fill the pcp with an fill adapter. Is there anything in between the $50 Chinese units and the $200 stikman? Looks like there was a stikboy for a while, but they quit making it. It would be nice to have a little better quality unit for under $100.

You picked up a very old paintball tank. Make sure the tank is 4500 psi because they did make fiber wrapped 3000 psi tanks. The regulator will have output of 800 psi most likely. You are best off replacing the regulator with a proper valve. Something like this, thats what I have. Keep in mind this cheap crap you should disassemble the amazon valve completely clean out chips and lubricate orings. Replace hose with a nipple, this hose will fail.

Sergey1972- yes, there were 2 tanks in the lot being sold, we peeled the covers off and one was 3000, and this one was 4500. I only paid $20 for it so im not into it much. Thanks for the link, i was also thinking about building something with different parts i can get online. I have a lathe and machining experience. Just need some direction.
