Uragan (updates as I learn the gun)

I haven't touched one yet but that appears to be the hammer spring adjuster. It's still not obvious from the pics I've seen, where the regulator sits.

I'm one to find the lowest reg pressure at which a gun will shoot the disired power while having a lighter than average cocking/firing cycle. Sometimes that means more reg pressure, sometimes less..... (and I always depressurize the action and removed the bottle (I hope there is a valve in this big boy bottle) if adjusting the reg)

Ex... My Vulcan 2 .30's firing cycle feels like the valve is getting hit with a 3 pound hammer everytime I pull the trigger. I'd love to back that out a bit but I don't want to lose any power or consitency. When time permits, I'll back the spring tension off a little and test for a while. When I get a comfortable result, I'll see how much (if any) power I lost. If too much and the accuracy at distance changed, I'd then go to the reg and raise pressure by a small amount and see what happened. It's time consuming and iterative... I don't currently have a way to test the reg outside the gun and this has been a busy spring (oddly good growing season considering the weather here the past 2 years so I'm taking full advantage).

Without having even seen a Uragan yet, I can't even guess how I would do this. Well, if that's truelly the hammer spring adjuster than can guess at that part of the puzzle. Then again, if mine has a comfortable shot cycle and does well on power and shot count.... I prob won't touch it except to make sure I have the best spring tension for consistency, if needed.

I believe the regulator sits at the connection with the back block where the hose connects too. There is no valve on the bottle, it screws right off (MAKE SURE IT IS EMPTY IF REMOVING). If you've ever messed with a Colibri, it looks very similar in design. I have not messed with regulator settings on my Uragan, only hammer spring tension.

cbuckley:

the gun does not have to be de-pressurized to adjust the hammer spring tension

knifemaker:

thanks for the heads up about the recon 360 bipod

Wrenching that screw clockwise did not further increase my FPS with my 10.34 gr. pellets (maxes out at 870 with plenty of room to continue turning). Wrenching it CCW did eventually lower my FPS.

I did did learn the hard way to make sure air cylinder is COMPLETELY EMPTY before unscrewing.

Unless there is is another way to increase FPS , then .177 15.5 gr. slugs at 850 FPS won’t be achieved. Can’t get them going faster than 675 FPS by adjusting hammer spring tension alone.

I'm still waiting for my email provider to deliver the file I need but....

Just shot a 100 shot string from 260 bar to 125 bar. The shot string will be here soon but basics impressions are....

1. something is diff between my 2 distinct 100 shot tests but my 55y aim point was less than 2 inch diff, I had not changed shooting location or touched the chrony (other than turning the power on) Whatever it is/was created a 20fps difference in the core numbers that I can not explain.

2. String off the bottle only had a higher STdev. Not surprised.

3. While I don't know the pressure the reg is set at, I think a good number of my shoots were off the reg. YET, they were not substantially different (depending upon your expectations)

4. I won't replicate these tests completely so it might be hard to prove BUT (and I think you'll see it in my next shot string) there is most certainly room for 100 shots between 260 - 125 bar within a little smaller spread. Small tweaks...…..

And after all this my email still won't update. I'll try back later

i have been looking at this gun for a while. what bothered me seems to be upgraded. the "wrap around hose" from the cylinder to the valve i guess. was like the old colibri , but the colibri was a copper tube that would leak and was a bitch to replace. vulcan looks to have used a reinforced high pressure hose? it also appears flexible , anyone have knowledge on this?

I haven't even taken my stock off yet. Trying to resist making any adjustments before I'm ready to commit to the process.

I agree with your description, but many earlier FX's used copper tube also Don't recall hearing of issues One of the reasons I,m hesitant to even think about adjusting the reg, for fear of interfering with the hose/fittings. Yeah, wouldn't buy one planning to ever have to replace it. But it's here so I'm all in.

Had to 'test' them.... Ordered 100 NSA slugs in 34.7g . Busy day so no real accuracy test, just 4 over the chrony at a swinger 75y away. Loose fit in the mag (not surprised). Tight fit into the leed when cocking. Flew dang straight, same horizontal plane but POI was roughly 1.5 inch low. All compared to the JSB MKII's. Chrony was 779-781 with 180 bar in the bottle. Tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll do 75y testing between the JSB MKII's and the slugs. Might add the 25g JSB's to the test as well.

@JCD from your above string it seems that the hammer srping is a bit loose. Towards the end of the string, where the gun goes off the regulator, the fps of your gun has increased. Try tunning the hammer spring a bit to make it more consistent. I would loosen the hammer spring tho bring the velocity down to 600is fps and then gradually go up by turning it in a quarter of a turn each time. As soon as the peak velocity is reached, I would back it out half a turn and that would be where it should perform consistantly.

Hi JCD, hope you don't mind that I join your topic. I recently received my Uragan Short .22 that I purchased from AoA where it retails for $1600.

I realize yours is the full length version & mine is the compact, but I thought I'd share my findings as well.

I too like my airguns to shoot using the regulator pressure as opposed to the hammer (its simply quieter & smoother). My Uragan is shooting the 18g JSB at 780 fps. I tried to adjust the HST but it only generated more noise & less efficiency.

I believe the designer in one in the same. Here you can see some similarities:

The two airguns are almost identical in weight. The Colibri measures 28'' in length, while the Uragan measures 24.4'' / 30''. While hunting I probably won't need the additional moderator, but for backyard shooting it's got a little bark. The AGT moderator looks like its designed for .30 cal, so I plan on trying a more appropriately sized moderator.

From the factory my Uragan is less powerful & a bit louder than the Colibri. But in almost every other aspect it is superior: quality, craftsmanship, magazine, ease of use, stock, grip ergonomics, lever action, & design.

The regulator is performing really well straight out-of-the-box. From a 250b fill (yeah yeah... I know it can take 300b) I'm getting 65 shots at 24 fpe with an ES of 7 and an SD of 2.

Both my Colibri & my Leshiy are tuned to shoot the JSB 18g pellets at 830 fps & I'd like to adjust my Uragan to do the same. I spoke to my friend Nick at Precision Pneumatic Products and he said the regulator looks very similar to that of the Colibri. He gave me an idea of how to adjust the regulator, I'll give it a shot tomorrow and share the results.

Hi guys

I have the full size in .30 and the compact in .177 Loving both of them so far So far the only issue is on my .30 cal I had a very minor air leak which ended up being the gauge, AGT resounded very quickly to my email and sent out a new gauge which fixed the leak Over all loving both guns

One thing that is puzzling is why are only the compacts coming with the AGT moderators, I pulled it off my .177 and tried it on my . 30 and it definitely took the bark off now I need one for my .30 permanently lol.

Michael, that's a clean shot string.

I just recently added about 3/4's of a turn to the hammer spring in hopes of getting a little more behind the MKIIs. It worked. While I haven't done an extended string, the ES is little less than my strings above (for 10 shots at time) are they are shooting at 875-877 FPS. I might take a 1/4 turn of tension back off since that last bit only gave me 3-4 fps, but the sound definitely suggests that I'm using more air. I'll skip the extra sound and save the air over 3-4 FPS.

Next question, and I'll need to hang some new targets first too many holes in the one out there now, is how much speed did I add to the 25gr pellets? They were already at 940.

I mentioned slugs above... I just had to test them.

The NSA 34.7s shot well but not better than MKII's at 75y. Noticeably tougher to close the bolt.

Just tested the NSA 31.7's before the HST adjustment. Same diameter but being a tad shorter I thought they MIGHT chamber a little easier. Well, they do chamber a little easier but not that much. Wasn't overly impressed with 75y target results. They were better but still not as good as the pellets.

I think I'll retest both now that the power is up little but I don't like the tougher loading and don't think I'd get into opening the lead on the barrel so these are probably not the slugs for me, at least in this barrel, even IF they prove to shoot well. I'm happy being a pellet shooter.

And finally, while the reg is very similar to the colibre (looking at the video above), there is no visible nut or fitting to hold still while turning the adjuster (assuming the visible nut is the adjuster...). Hopefully a true tuner will touch one of these soon and offer that insight. I'm just not inclinded to be the test case on that one. At least not while it all works. But then again, maybe the flexible line in the Uragan isn't as fragile.

I too am too chicken to monkey with the reg without having someone smarter than myself do it successfully first and post a how-to guide. My gun is working too well for me to mess it up.

That being said, if I end up getting a .177 LW poly barrel for my MKII Impact, I may be willing to be more reckless with my Uragan.

The only difference I got by increasing the HST on my rig was louder operation and increased air usage. If I continued increasing HST, I eventually saw a small dip in FPS. I have a feeling that my .177 compact will shoot the 15.5 gr. NSA slugs well if I can get them going at an appropriate FPS.

cbuckley.… I agree, although my HST alone did get me a little closer to the speeds I want with the pellet I want to use, without obviously wasting air (still need to go back that 1/4 turn). I will have to do a full string at some point to see how that holds up over the usable tank fill.

I did shoot a mag of NSA 31.7 over the chrony just now, back in the 860's. SO with them being 2+ grains less than the 33.95 pellets, and going 20fps slower.... clearly (to my simple mind, esp with the tighter fit) to me they are getting forced through rifling more so than the pellets. As I read the slug posts, this prob isn't a good thing (drag/twist etc). Could be my barrel could be that these just aren't going to shoot slugs. Honestly, I didn't expect good results but I had to try!

I shot these through paper targets into my dirt berm. When I hang a new set of targets I'll try to recover at least one.

Doesn't mean yours will be the same, too many differences but I'd be curious. Grab an order and test them? You never know.

I'm going to test mine at a little longer distance this week, if all the same then I'm going to pass them along to someone else to test.

Quick one...

I'm done with these slugs. Barrel/speed whatever, I'm not changing either so while I may test other slugs in the future the ones I've tested are not right for this barrel. And, the .25 Kings didn't do well at the new higher speeds so this one is going to stick with MKII's.

And the wind picked up pretty good, although intermittently so I switched to the Tactic 2 .30... the trigger is so much lighter. May have to make that my next effort on my Uragan.

That may be it for a couple days. Couple hundred trees to drag water to and a lot of grass to cut.
