Upcoming Reincarnation of the Beeman P17

They are supposed to be here later this month.

Wonder if it will pay to wait until the typical manufacturing/QC/QA glitches are taken care of.

Yes, they can typically do a great job with quality work, but usually after being forced to by the dealers selling their products in the US of A.

Waiting may also allow one to see if they just produced a piece of junk not worth owning.

I am thinking of getting one to shoot beside my "Trusty OLD Daisy 747".

Might even scope it (LER pistol scope) if I buy one.

I remember the original P17 fiasco. That Chinese copy of the German made P3 was a disaster. They cheated on the plastic formula and the guns would not even stay together. The plastic stretched at the stress points and the pins would fall out. I bought a P3 and then after I had about 10,000 rounds through it it was stolen so bought another P3 so I would not have any troubles. Guess they finally got the P17 problems figured out but that was after many thousands of defective units went out the door. Hard to say what will happen this time.

Well, I don't hate to say, but you get what you pay for. I saw a Beeman P1 in great shape on another forum for $269. AA Classified, I hope that doesn't break the rules. And a P1 is light years ahead of Chinese crap. And I do have a P17 with a scope. I would shoot it more, but for me and my fat clumsy fingers, hard to load, and harder to cock then the P1 for a lot less velocity. Dr. Robert Beeman had the right idea, and Weihrauch of Germany had the manufacturing ability. Full circle, You get what you pay for, at least in this example.

I bought a P-3 years ago and have shot many thousands of pellets. I love it, it’s not that hard to close for me. Then I got a P-17 at Walmart for $21 when they had a close out sale. It’s just as accurate as the P-3 but a bit harder to close. I sure would have loved a P-17 to hunt grasshoppers with as a boy.

I saw that same gun, only a couple hrs after it was listed, I just got shipping conformation for delivery on thursday

I have been looking for one for several months

I still may have to get a P17 for my son to shoot.

Thank You to all who have responded, I have learned things

Interestingly this was started by me due to my P 17 ignorance.

The site I went to showed them to be out of stock and somewhere I came up with the info that the "new" versions were due this month.

With a little effort I have found more than one place that has current versions of the P 17 and so come Monday I plan to have one on it's way!

It will be used to supplement my Daisy 747 which has sent a gazillion pellets downrange. over MANY years. May hav to breake it down and replace the O-rings one of these days.

If its any use to you fella, I looked at this latest incarnation because it does not have the Fibre optic sights, something some precision target shooters do not like so much. I liked the sights, kinda throwing back to how they used to be when the P17 and HW40 were first imported but the rest of it was very poor compared to the P17. Buy the P17, its quality control issues have been sorted and u got a near match trigger on board.

For anyone else, there is a new incarnation of the existing P17....the good one. They are doing it in .22 with its own special wadcutter .22. Incredibly its making near 4ftlbs. I wonder if they have played with the TP to suit the bigger bore barrel.

Just go on the GTA and type in P17 into the search engine. It will bring up tons of stuff on tuning, shooting and even pesting with them.

You say you certainly like the idea of a single pump. Its the only way to go buddy.

Gas stuff can be so damn annoying, cartridges running out, power curves, running out of cartridges. Springers need years of practice to sense the character of the gun and repeat the exact hold. Not so SSP in reg any of these problems.
