UNREGULATED VS REGULATED - Don't forget about unregulated guns yet.

With so many airguns coming out with regulators, it is easy to forget about unregulated airguns. They do have a place in our arsenals- for the hand pumper, the cold climates, backyard plinker, casual airgunner, people who want simplicity....ect. I made a video about some of their attributes in Hope's that we don't dismiss them.

Excellent post Sir!

I myself discovered that HPA and regs don't like each other when temp is near or well below 32*F.

I also want to point out that balanced valves are not to be given up on.

A 40fps spread at 50 yards equates to 1/4" lower POI.
If anyone new thinks a good unregulated airgun in the 6-45ft/lb area can't maintain a 20-40fps shot count of at least 20-60 shots, you're just wrong.
For hunting and low shots, any PCP is fine.
For high density pesting, or precision shooting at 25-??? yards? A regulated rifle shines. As long as it isn't limiting the required power for heavier pellets or slugs that may require more air usage.

I myself have all types. Non regulated, internally regulated, tethered step down in-line reg, springers/gas rams, etc.

A regulator shines for some, is a hindrance & PITA for others. I personally like the step down in-line reg for testing of all PCP's. As it allows adjustments easily and faster, with no worries of a leak.

...this winter weather thing is as I suspected...there is no such thing as a free lunch...

...much of my out door shooting activity involves cold weather...

...IMHO predictability trumps constancy per se...

...I had already reconsidered installing a regulator on the CZ S200 as it seemed to complicate matters and there is really nothing to fix here...

...why spend $$$ and complicate simple things...???...

...this is my "fill system"...with a regulator it would not be so simple...

...I did just order a Rowen magazine and a black anodized Al bolt handle for it...$125...!!!...I ain't Rockefeller but I ain't cheap...

...we don't need no stinking regulators...!!!...

Hapo, sticman77, JamesD, 8thman, Yo,

Thanks guys for watching!

Great info Hapo. I'm cking those parts ouy.

Yo, which guns are you talking about?

...thank Rob'...

If it's the trigger blade that is broken, Rowan engineering sells one... Just a thought.

They make some good stuff.

As for the stock removal tool, I have one somewhere in among my junk, but as I recall, it shouldnt be hard to make the proper tool.

Wasn't Rusbears rifle unregulated, the one he used to win the 2019 EBR???

My favorite old rifle is a unregulated pcp. USFT's rock! Only 4 perfect scores and 6 state wins with it.

It was! Crazy.

Great review man. A regulator is a lazy mans way to get a gun to shoot consistently. I would prefer a perfectly tuned unregulated gun that isn’t temperature sensitive, doesn’t have the added o-rings(extra points of failure), and uses ALL of the space in an air reservoir compared to having a reg taking up air space.

Agreed! I buying one now.

I have 2 that are superb. . Theoben R17 Mk1 and FX Tarantula in 22. The Theo gets 125 shots of awesome accuracy from 200 bar down to 115 bar with an es of 15 at 19 ft lb and the Tarantula is every bit as good over 24 shots(3 mags) at 30 ft lb. They set the bar pretty high. USFT is close with an es of 20 over 60 shots at 19 ft lb.

Bob

Wow! I saw a Theoben for sale recently. Going to have to ck it out.

The Career II 707s and Sumatra specifically the long guns and some of the others already mentioned.

The old long barrel FXs with Pre Smooth Twist OLD Lothar Walter barrels that shoot more accurate than the new ones are what I speak of for 300 yard shooting.

The old guns 10 years or older with the Lothar Walter barrels its their superlative barrels are by far better for long range accuracy than the newer Lothar Walter barrels and way less pellet pickiness.

The early FX ST thick barrels have similar characteristics but not as accurate for the longest imaginable ranges.

Should have bought out all of the discontinued FX Lothar Walther barrels from AoA years ago.
