I just wanted to get some opinions on scopes from the fine folks here. I just picked up a new Savage 30.06 with the accu-stock. It seems there is an overwhelming amount of scopes to choose from. I want to get some first hand opinions from people that have actually used them. I will be taking this rifle to Wyoming to do some mule deer and elk hunting. I also like to target shoot but probably nothing over 500 or 600 yards.

Very vague to really help. What are you wants for a scope? Like certain magnifications, any preference for MIL or MOA, any weight limits, dial or holdover, illuminated reticle or not, clean reticle or Christmas tree style.

probably will want a light more basic scope for hunting, something in a 3-9X50 will be about right .. 500+ yard target shooting is a whole other ball game really . you arnt going to be lugging a 20lb rifle with giant scope and bipod with your bench folded up on your back through the woods ..

Damn rite, Leupold makes great glass. I wonder why they don't make a scope geared to high end air gunning?
Or do they??

WIN M70 30-06 with Burris FullField E1 3-9 x 50 mm scope with Burris Signature Zee medium rings. Definitely a tack driver.

My Savage 30-06 ruined a Simmons 44 mag scope. With the scope it weighs about 8 lbs and I shot it a lot from the bench. Simmons sent a replacement but the glass was not nearly as good as the original – a buddy and I tested it against his Leupold and we both thought it was comparable. It's current scope is a Burris Fullfield 3-9. It is holding up fine. It has a simple duplex recticle. Out to 300 yards, I don't think you need mil dots or anything. I sight it in at 200 so drop at 300 only requires a little hold over. If you really want to go further, you may need a fancier recticle.

Leupold FX-II 6x. It is all you need for a big game rifle and the duplex is sized to easily bracket deer sized game for ranging.
