Unboxing - Apex Horizon Discovery Optics VT-2 4-16x50 scope from China

I had a couple of decent Amazon gift cards, so I decided to take a chance and order one of the Discovery scopes from Apex Horizon which ships from China. I liked the features of the VT-2, and I like the reticle as well. Some folks have not had good luck ordering these, so I thought I'd take some pics while unboxing, so you can see how they ship these days. YMMV.

Here's how the box arrived. The package was in good condition, and the box seemed to be wrapped with nice padding.

Starting to open the package, I could see that the box was wrapped in 3 layers of bubble wrap. Pretty nice.

Just a little dent on one corner of the box.

Open box, all packaged as expected. Nothing spectacular, but well enough to withstand shipping halfway around the world I guess.

Contents of the box. It came with scope rings (I bought some because I didn't know they'd be included!), a couple of allen wrenches, chamois cloth, cardboard square with scope specs, user manual, scope shade, and two scope covers already installed on the ends. The order page didn't really specify what all would be included, so I am very pleased that all of this is included.

I may be weird, but I like the blue caps on the scope covers.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased and impressed with my purchase. I looked through the scope and all seems fine. The eye relief seems a little long, but I'll adjust and get used to it. I didn't try the illumination yet, as a battery didn't seem to be included in the box. (That's fine, I have several extras.) The reticle is MUCH smaller than the thick wire reticle in my UTG scope, which will be very nice. Once I get the air rifle and get the scope mounted, I'll try to get a decent photo through the scope, to show the reticle.

Nice review. What you got in the mail looks similar to what I posted in my review last month... damaged box, but although mine was sold through Apex Horizon, it was fulfilled through Amazon state-side and was at my door in two days. I can't say poop about Apex Horizon or Discovery because the Amazon packaging was a hack-job (which is rare).

How is the glass in yours? I ordered two and I am blown away by how good they are. I am curious if there are any "duds" out there because most of the reviews online are all foreign.

EDIT: I noticed that your scope was not shipped with a battery. Neither was mine. I think (just my opinion) that Apex Horizon is saving money on the shipping cost by removing the battery, since it is considered a hazardous item depending on which border they ship across. It didnt bother me because I had a fresh blister-pack of Energizers waiting.

I haven't really taken the time to look through it much. I looked through it a little after I opened the box, and zoomed in on a typical pest location in my yard. It looked pretty nice, but I'll get a much better idea once I get it mounted on a gun in a month or two.

I looked through the glass a bit today. It looks good, although the slightest bit of head movement causes you to lose sight. Maybe it'll be better when it's mounted on the rifle. The Bushnell on my Savage 30-06 is much more forgiving, I can move my head all around and not lose sight. The reticle is extremely fine and hard to see when I'm down in my basement. I finally installed a battery, and the lighted reticle is very helpful. In open daylight, mounted on a rifle, I think will be much better.

I have a work friend who was telling me his scope woes. It is a Ovlife 6-24x50. I asked to see pics of it...he has it mounted so high with crap rings and the 1" tube of that garbage glass just can't handle it. The reticle is hilariously awful to boot. I ordered a VT-2 Discovery 44mm obj with 14mm medium rings for him. I saw they should just work with clearing the magazine but wont know for a few days. I wouldnt normally order a cheap scope from a brand I have never delt with but want to see what Discovery Optics offer. Also want him to enjoy shooting more and get that crap off his Maurader since it is a decent PCP.

I have handled one of those Cvlife scopes. Just my opinion, but the one I handled looked and felt better than a CenterPoint... which isn't exactly a mouthful. If anything, I would say that those scope rings definitely need to be replaced. With all of that being said, I am confident that you and your friend will find out fast that the Discovery scope will FAR out-class the Cvlife scope in just about every category that you could think of. Wish I had a friend that would buy me nice scopes lol.
