Umarex Gauntlet: Super Tune Kit Installation (VIDEO)

Thanks for the videos -- am doing the valve now -- what size did you bore out the air hole to the barrel ?? Did the video actually tell ?
i am doing 177 - thinking of pulling the shroud and skinny barrel and replace with Lothar and real air stripper ??
what size hole please ?? Mine showed 1200 out of tank to start with may bump it to 1250 -- looking forward to video to fix this HARD COCKING --
thanks --

The hole transfer port size was increased from 3.4mm to 4.1mm and chamfered with tapered and bird mouth beveling for smoother air from from breech block. The hard cocking and massive shot count will be captured and shared in the installation video.

Joker - with .177 you do NOT want to go 4.1mm, that's fine for .22. In .177 you only want to go to 3.5-3.6mm (75% of bore) Otherwise you will have issue with loading pellets.

I am looking forward to your video, I am real happy with how mine shoots, 820's and it groups real well.....so it hitting harder is something I really don't care about....now shot count, that one I am going to think hard on.....almost 50 more shots on that tank is just mind blowing.

It brings the question....

I think you said you did all this to your gun for around $30-ish in parts, and a few hours of your time.

What would umerex have on their hands if they did the same thing, and charged $400.....you would have a 100+ shot gun, that is in the mid 800's for all those shots. I am sure if all the guns really wake up like yours did we will see "pro shops" popping up everywhere.

As I said previously, the average person will not need to or be required to make any changes to their Gauntlet. Most of the changes I have made to my Gauntlet were to satisfy my tweaking nature LOL :)
Please remember the comment that made previously about $30 and a few hours, was any videos and mods that I have made at the time of this writing. The 100+ shots is something that i have not captured yet. But either way, your question is still valid. Why wouldn't Umarex do what’s being done? I think the answer is they achieved what they set out to do, the design of anything has to stop at some point and because we have not lived what the design specifications were, we can not appreciate the cascading affects that take place.
I mean look at the regulator change alone, they more than likely already had a PO into Ninja Paintball for 1,000,000 units which were already in production and being shipped at the Umarex requested 1050-1100PSI, think of the cost and production impact to Ninja to retool so to speak which they would be entitled to a change order to support. That would delay deliver and drive up unit cost.

But I agree with you 100%, the Gauntlet would be all that much better if these changes were captured in the production model. Keep you eyes open for the Gauntlet 2 I guess :)

Good question and that’s my 2 cents.

I have made a number of posts about the topic I have brought up both here and on other forums and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, here goes another.

Of all the things I would have liked to see Umarex do with this gun is make the barrel more solid to the receiver such that a bump didn't disturb the POI as much as it does.

In the latest video from Airgun Depot (Gauntlet vs. Urban), https://youtu.be/UGzYb2GtQys, one can see how bent upwards the barrel is by just the weight of the gun as it sits in the rest and is supported by the barrel. Once the barrel "finds" its home position, it appears to stay there with the shot cycle not disturbing it drastically. I wonder if some of the flyers or minor inaccuracy could be a result of barrel motion other than its natural harmonics.

Haj stated that he expects to address this situation in due time and I am sure, others, even myself, will be looking into it.

For now, I am very careful not to lift the gun by the barrel or bump it even slightly. If Umarex is tuned in, maybe they will eventually give it a look too.

Hajimoto thanks for the informative videos and all the info you share online. I'm building a gauge to test my regulator. My .22 Gauntlet is shooting 14gr pellets right at 800fps avg. and my son's .22 Gauntlet is shooting the same pellet at 843fps avg. So I want to check my reg. against his. So my question is I bought all the parts you list on you regulator video the same ASA, and slide check. but I just noticed that the AV pressure gauge you used is 1/8 BSPP thread. Is that a must. I think the one I ordered is 1/8npt will it work? Thanks Jon

Hello Jon. Thanks for the kind words regarding my videos. You have correctly identified that the BSPP thread of the gauge is not compatible with the Slide check adapters NPT. These threads are not compatible and require an adapter for proper connection. An adapter like the listed below is needed.

I did use my BSPP gauge in the Slide check's NPT threads using layers of Teflon tape to ensure a seal. I torqued the connection and ran with it as I anticipated the max pressure of 1250PSI and this technique would not be recommended for extreme pressures. Again it is important to be clear, BSPP and NPT are not compatible and I applied the "any port in a storm" rule in my application.

"JOKER708"Thanks for reply about the size of hole -- did the valve - took 2 of the .005 shims to get it slightly over 1250 -- any harm going over just a little --
or maybe to 1300 -- thanks for your help --
Going over 1250PSI puts you in no mans land. I nor anyone else would in good conscience suggest going over the stamped and manufacturers (Ninja Paintball) stamped maximum. That beings said I am sure that there at +/- percentages that allow for heat expansion which could have the same results. What the +/- is, is the unknown. I for one am running closer to 1300PSI and loving the results with 14.4gr pellets.

"JH4410"Hajimoto the Ninja slide check is 1/8npt male & female. Just checked the specs so I think I'm OK.
Why are you guys using slide checks in a reg tester?
Just get on of these on/off valves

and one of these gauges

and you're good to go for under $20
I 100% agree with your reduction in components and also the reduction in points of failure. As I always say, this is all a collaboration, the community working together to produce the most efficient way to getting something done. I just got the process started, its not my patented design but more a suggestion to the masses to help refine it and we all benefit for free.
Great changes!

Chrono results --177 using new Magneto chrono 5 shot average -- gun tethered and valve set at 1500 into the gun
from factory
13.4 Gr --avg 803 fps SD of 4.3
16.2gr avg 718fps SD OF 2.4
after adding .010 of shims to regulater
13.4 gr -avg 848fps SD of 3.1
16.2 gr -avg 846fps SD of 1.4
these are my results in my gun -- wind is howling here -
no accuracy results yet as I just shot these out the door --
sweet spot of 16.2 is my choice for next match --
was definitely worth doing -- have not polished bolt yet --
waiting on more videos to learn more --
thanks

Those #'s don't seems quite right. You went from 19.1fpe to 21.4fpe with 13.4's and went from 18.5 to 25.7 with 16.2's?

BTB, thanks for the reg checker parts links!

I still do not have any poi shift with my Qauntlet ( .177 ) , strip it down to the airtube & reassemble and it's w/in 4 clicks, lay it down any ole way and it's just fine.

If wanting to stiffen it up a bit the Qauntlet is a better design than a QB - which you needed to drill & tap holes in the receiver for extra screws- as you can remove the receiver w/out removing the barrel this design will allow bonding the barrel in place , the Bam50 was this way, same three grooves but filled with epoxy ish bonding agent. If ever needing to remove barrel from receiver just heat it up a bit and pull.

It might also be interesting to bond or attach ( using screws ) the shroud mount to the receiver. I personally see no reason to go there but it wouldnt be hard to try.

Biggest problem I've seen on mine if looking for more power would be the valve exhaust port NOT lining up with the hole in air tube and/or transfer port.
On mine the exhaust hole is partially cover by the transfer port tube. As the valve too far to the rear there is really no way to remedy this w/out a good bit of work. As I have no plans on hopping this one up it isnt an issue, and maybe mine is that way b ut most arent? ( I would love to hear from others if there TP is centered or not as if some are centered I would chance ordering a new valve).

I was planning on some 100 yards shooting with it today buit I wasnt planning on 6" of new snow, I'll post up some groups in the nest week or sao.
