EDIT: While testing the second gun I found a loose lens ring on the scope. Due to this finding all scoped accuracy testing is invalid and must be redone. This thread may be deleted. I will repost this review after fixes have been made and new tests completed.

I received my refurbished Umarex NXG APX from Midway a few days ago and got to test it this weekend. I ordered two, one of them had a cracked receiver. They were both wrapped in bubble wrap and packaged in a plain cardboard box from Umarex. Midway placed the two boxes from Umarex in one of their own and added the large bubble packs as fill. I tested the one that wasn't broken. The broken one I plan to disassemble and attempt to modify.

Rifle was tested at three pumps through ten pumps using Crosman Ultra Magnum Domed 10.5gr I oiled the rifle's piston and pump hinges before Chrono testing.
Three pumps Avg 357.54FPS 2.98FPE
Four pumps Avg 384.50FPS 3.45FPE
Five pumps Avg 396.48FPS 3.67FPE
Six pumps Avg 408.14FPS 3.88FPE
Seven pumps Avg 421.62FPS 4.15FPE
Eight pumps Avg 429.02FPS 4.29FPE
Nine pumps Avg 439.24FPS 4.5FPE
Ten pumps Avg 442.66FPS 4.57FPE

Tested accuracy at 12yards using the open sights off bags. The best group I could manage was with Gamo Red Fire 7.8gr with a 0.949in group. The groups I managed surprised me, as the first shot I took with this rifle was with a Crosman Ultra Magnum, at full power. Target was a bottle cap at a distance of about 10yards. I took the shot offhand and blew the cap right off the bottle. In group testing the Ultra Magnum performed the worst, placing pellets all over the target sheet making a group impossible to measure. I also tested some Gamo PBA Raptor 5.4gr pellets which were unable to reach the advertised 800FPS, the highest velocity was 614FPS.

The red fiber front post is easy to focus on. I found the windage adjustment to be difficult and the screw to be a distraction while aiming. Pumping was easy, most likely due to the low pressure it could manage. It is also fairly quiet, much more so than my Benjamin 347 that I tested at the same time. The pump handle makes a nice support for offhand shooting. Loading pellets with the E-Z Load Ramp was not as easy as expected. Pellets would regularly fall in canted or backwards from the distance I could get my fingertips. BBs loaded smoothly from the reservoir. The trigger pull was stiff and rough, but did seem to break predictably.

In my opinion this is a good rifle for plinking around the 10 to 15 yard range. I would not advise using it for any sort of pesting or hunting due to its low power and poor accuracy. The addition of a scope may help with accuracy. In a following test, maybe tomorrow, I will install an older Gamo 4x15mm scope I have in storage.

I just went out hunting with mine today. I'm sure it's shooting hotter than your testing indicated. I shot 5 chipmunks and 2 squirrels at ranges of 5yards to maybe 40yards. 2 shots were at critters in trees. My BSA scope was dead on except at close range. I shot a paint pail at about 40yards and it hit dead on and passed through both sides at that range. I can't complain. Maybe I got lucky or you got a dud. My wife, who's never shot any gun before, tried it and hit a 4" spinner at about 40yards. She really enjoyed shooting it.

Perhaps it is a dud as it doesn't display anything near the performance you describe. It is a refurbish, so it could have been abused before I got it. Improper barrel maintenance and/or over pumping could account for its performance, or lack there of.

I'm about to do some Chrono testing on the broken one to see if it is any better.

Here is my extended review.

In my previous post I forgot to mention that I got several misfires with light pointed pellets. The rifle would expel air, but the pellet stayed in the chamber. I believe the pellet dimensions where allowing air to escape past the skirt. It also has a rattle if you shake it.

For today's test I installed a Gamo 4x15mm scope and zeroed it on my 12yd target.

I had to do some shimming to get the mount to hold to the rifle.

I had intended to test on my 25yd target but the 12yd tests didn't show enough accuracy to go to 25 yards reliably.

Today's pellet turned out to be Beeman Wadcutter 7.7gr with a 5 shot group of 1.132in and the best 4 less than 0.5in.

Here is a short video of the rifle in action. Spinners are attached to my 12yd target stand.
