TX200 Kits

10 years ago I got a Benji Trail Nitro for ground squirrels. When they started greeting wise to me I got into PCPs for the longer ranges. After spending billions (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration) on RAW, Flex, BSA, and FX rifles, I have decided to go back to springers and just pulled the trigger on a 177 refurb TX200 from PA. I want to get it down to sub 12 fpe, assuming it will come tuned much higher. What kits are available to accomplish this? Assuming more than one, is one better than another?

thanks for your advice and input.

What is the end game and what kind of shot cycle feel do you prefer?

It may take a bit of trial and error to find the right fit, but standard OEM internals (rear guide and spring) can be used to very good effect. You’d need to source a short stroke MK1/MK2 piston however. Top shooter John Farbrother (current Springer World Champion) at the height of his world domination used a standard MK1/MK2 spring fitted with a delrin top hat, OEM rear guide and a blue Gamo piston seal off of EBay.

The MK3s are very lazy and more hold sensitive due to their long stroke. Get a short stroke piston head or a longer latch rod to reduce the stroke. Then pop in a tune of your choice. Shortening the stroke is the best single thing you can do to one IMO.

I can also second the Tony Leach 22mm conversion. He is "the guy" for sub 12 TX tuning.

On one of my TX200's (yes I have to many, or at least some people would think so) When it came to me it had a 12FP kit already installed.

It is a very nice kit, fitted guide rod, very nicely polished spring ends, bearing washers. The gun was just a touch over 12FP with AA 8.4.

I installed a Tony Leach 22mm kit using replacement compression chamber and Latch rod so i did not have to disassemble any of the kit that was in the gun. The 22mm conversion made an unbelievable difference in the gun. Its now right at 11FP cocks with very little effort, more like a 6FP 10m gun. The lock time is fast, the gun feels sharp, It just a gentle thump with no vibration. The pellet impact can easily be seen in the scope since there is almost no movement in the firing cycle. Its almost as recoilless as my AA TX200sr. But the TX with the 22mm kit outshoots the sr. The kitted gun is fantastically accurate.

To say I am pleased is an understatement, I would like to get at least one more kit from Tony to set up in my TX200hc then decide which one gets the custom Field Target stock.

While I am not familiar with the short stroke kit, I can share a picture of the 22mm kit from Tony.
it uses your existing compression tube in which you would heat up the transfer port to break the thread locker and then install the compression tube sleeve. You also reuse the piston latching rod from the stock HEAVY piston.
the spring is a slightly shortened AA spring that is installed and tuned for approximately 780 FPS/ ~11.5 ft/lbs of energy (<— I think those figures are correct but I might be in error) after trial and error. I think the idea is to shorten the spring to just under the ‘magic’ numbers and sneak up to them with the supplied washers shown. Again, I may be wrong as I didn’t install/tune my own kit.
The current delrin/oring breech seal setup should make the final setup much easier than the previous delrin only version.
I don’t receive a commission LOL, just a fanboy and VERY pleased customer of Tony’s. And Tony answered all of my many questions before and after the sale. I purchased several spares as well so that this setup can be serviced for a lifetime

So, I have researched the short stroke kit and the 22 mm kit. Will these work together, or is it a choice between the two? I still need to get the gun in my hands to see how it is set up, it may not need any changes, but time will tell.

The 22mm kit has a shorter stroke. The MKIII factory stroke is 98mm. My 22mm kit is a measured 92mm. Smooth and accurate to say the least😎
