I recently bought an FX Royale 400 in .22, great rifle. Initially, it was shooting the JSB 18 at around 920 fps. Accuracy was good at 25 yards, but chrono runs showed ES of 25-30 fps, and I expect that might be an issue at longer distances. I adjusted it down a little with hammer spring tension, around 900, but consistency was no better, so I figured it was a regulator issue. I returned it to FX for inspection, and in the interim, installed a Huma, which confirmed my suspicion. Accuracy is great and ES is consistently under 10 fps. I stopped my tuning at a point where velocity is 850, with hammer spring tension about maxed out. In other words, as I increase tension more, velocity remains about the same. Since it is obviously capable of shooting faster, I assume I need to bump the reg pressure up a bit. I ended up at around 145 BAR on the Huma scale, but I suspect that is not accurate, since I think it would be shooting faster at that pressure. It's shooting so good I might do nothing, as 850 fps with the 18 is really adequate for my uses. For those out there more experienced with this, if I should decide to increase the pressure again, would 5-10 BAR be reasonable? Any other thoughts?
