The photos on this site of LP53 piston seals that I have come across do not look like mine. This is the original 60 year old seal. Are replacements available?

That is the correct OEM seal but does look like its had 60 years on it….

I made my own, but putting a buffer material inside the leather, instead of ahead of it like the OEM seal, gaining a bit of a stroke. I made the nose from Silver Steel, hardened and polished for a great bearing.

My piston seal is indeed looking all its 60 years.  Your homemade seal looks very impressive, no resemblance to my original. Your idea of packing a buffer under the old leather is worth a try. If it doesn't work, I guess I'll need to check into one of those PTFE ones. Thanks Steveoo.

No problem buddy…..PTFE seal is fine and will give 500 fps but order 2….they eventually take a set of the keyhole slot on their back face…takes about 5000 shots….so order 2

Thanks. That will be plan B. We'll see if I need to go that route.
