For those of you that have read any of my posts about this particular air rifle of mine and if you own one, you know that the shot cycle is very harsh and it takes a lot of practice to get good accuracy out of a big box gun. I have done every thing conceivable to this scope killer except de tuning it. I have the same rifle in 22 cal and instead of the 60 kilo gas ram in it I installed a Gamo 50 kilo gas ram. That ram change made considerable improvements in my accuracy and enjoyment in shooting it. It was cronied after fitting the 50 kilo ram and was shooting 14.65 H&N FTT at a respectable 710 fps.

So my wife and I are doing a bit of fishing and mud crabbing at Burrum Heads and yesterday we went for a drive to Harvey Bay and visited a gas strut regassing business. I took along a spare replacement ram for sizing. I once installed this ram in my 22 cal and after 20 or so shots my rifle nearly fell apart so out it came. The guy tested this ram for me and to my surprise it was rated at 80 kilos, too much power. So for $10.00 (is that cheaper then a spring ?) I bought a new ram that he lowered to 50 kilos for me. Happy days. The one on the right is the new one. I’ll install it when we get home and let you know the outcome. It’s a bit smaller in thickness but we cut it back to be the same overall length.

The rifle as is is very accurate and I have fitted a ZR mount but I want to reduce it’s harshness and lessen its cocking effort. 🤞 😂

Home yesterday arvo, unpacked and went to the shed. I took the ram out and the first thing I noticed that this ram is considerably larger dimension wise then the one I was replacing it with. The new ram was very loose in the rear spring guide so I made a sleeve to keep it snug. Put it all back together and went outside.

Upon cocking the rifle the first thing I noticed that the effort was way much less then my 22 cal Trail with the 50 kilo Gamo gas ram in it. Also the barrel was further down, like the muzzle was very close to the butt of the stock. Anyway I put in a pellet aimed and pulled the trigger.

Pfffffffffffffftttttttt was the next sound I heard, the pellet was still in the breach. Obviously what I thought was a 50 kilo Gamo ram in my other Trail wasn’t. I had a little chuckle and went to the shed fridge for a beer. So after a few sips ( it was bloody hot in the shed) i decided that I would have to take the ram out of the 22 cal Trail and test it. I think it would be around the 60 kilo Mark based on the Pffffffftttttt. Anyhow I but the original ram back in it went outside put up a target and fired a few shots. Still accurate. Had another chuckle and but it back in the safe.
