Tuning for slugs? Catch, Cook & Camp

Hey guys, had a beautiful few days out of the house with Marley doing some hunting and shooting. My better half was having a girl night at the house so I got the boot to the hills, hey I wasn't complaining. I ended up connecting with a good sized Cottontail that we cooked the first night followed by the next day of discussing shooting slugs and doing some Ground Squirrel hunting. Here are a few pics of the trip as well as the video I hope some may enjoy!

Im probably gonna get a lot of crap from members for saying this but im gonna be honest with you Dana, Its getting really tiring and boring watching scope cam videos for 15-20 minutes shooting the same damn things! Specially scope cam videos! My respects to you brother! I think you and a couple more guys on YouTube are the only ones that have very entertain videos, I really enjoy them and off course watching Marley retrieving the quarry is a plus! keep it up and thanks for being different, that makes a huge difference.

I have to second some of this and some of it is all the same stuff. But Dana I do respect your videos and you do mix it up. I do feel you have integrity in what you say and do and the opinions you give of products sent to you. Some YouTubers have had huge success and I know they have worked for it, but their videos have just become commercials and there is nothing to learn so for me, not a priority to watch, but Dana yours are. Plus I am a huge dog lover and Marley many times steals the show, IMHO.

Lastly, Dana, you interact with your viewers and that I respect because in the end I know it isn’t always possible, but it really shows you care!

@crosman999, have you ever done a review or video with a Taipan Mutant or Veteran? I looked the last night but couldn’t find anything.

I'm all for these videos too so don't get me wrong, just a general comment here -- I wish more of these airgun-promoting videos weren't all promoting just one brand, or even one gun. I feel like I have to migrate channels to find the people who are not sponsored and/or are shooting regular guns .. or who just shoot with some variety. (One of my favorites went from Prod to Taipan to FX ... and I bet he stays there forever. Especially if he gets even a whiff of getting paid.) Otherwise it's like beating a dead horse. YES we all love FX, all hail the once and future FX king. It just gets dreary when the only adventure is firing the same thing twice.

Not meaning to dump on you at all, Dana, but this is merely the third in a series of comments, probably none against you really, but about the blandness of shooting videos. I wish more of you top shooters were not just re-affirming the party line 24/7. Not saying anyone should disavow it. Just a matter of narrowness breeds less interest and probably eventually less trust.

Even reviews and shooting videos themselves are getting more like an industry, and honestly i find it starting to get creepy.

Bob, I understand where you are coming from and I understand the differences, and some people I like more than others when it comes to their videos. Your stuff is at the top of my list for what I watch, but some others have become commercials in their content and for their sponsors. Even though these some of these people very knowledgeable now tend to ignore their reviews because some times you never hear anything negative, everything has a negative. I know it is part of the game and I know making content can be expensive, etc. But don’t sell yourself out in the process. And Dana brought some of the stuff being discussed in his latest video so it isn’t inappropriate to discuss here, IMHO.

Thank you for the kind words and appreciate the support! Terry has the Taipan Mutant and has discussed the gun on the sister channel "Offhand-Airgunner" I love the Mutant, simple, accurate and reliable.

I try to be different and have no problem being on my own island. My personality can be a bit abrasive but I always disclose sponsorship for my work when it applies. This particular video was not paid for and just for fun to pass some time and to help the channel grow. It's hard to take things seriously when the person reviewing is selling the products themselves or make it sound like they purchased it for review. Lol The very worst is those who have decided to "buy" subscribers to give the illusion of a huge following. My channel is tiny but I've enjoyed watching it grow over the past year. Who else has a host as cool as Marley? Haha

Well, not to steal Marley’s thunder, but the british guy Pontypool pest control just brought his dog onboard, so Marley might want to watch to up his game so he doesn’t get upstaged by a “limey Brit.” 😉... Merica!

But that guy isn't a true Limey...he's Welsh, and that doesn't really count. Some of his footage is pretty good - he makes some decent longer shots with a sub 12fl/lbs rifle, too.

Dana, I really enjoy your videos. I like the way you tell a bit more of a story that a lot of channels. The formula of "scope cam shot of pigeon > shooter telling the distance, projectile and velocity to camera" is tiresome. Your videos kind of show you as an outdoorsman that likes airguns, not just somebody that shoots airguns and doesn't like to get their hands dirty. I dig that.

I don’t mind if the person is sponsored or not, I know Dana is doing this as full-time job, cmon the guy got to eat right! I think is better to be sponsored by a dealer rather than a specific brand, I personally don’t follow reviewers on you tube bc “almost” all of them are bias, if I want to get info about an airgun that I’m interested on, i go to the forums and check regular members posts Sharing their experiences with the gun.
