Tuning Tuned? What exactly does that mean to you?

I would classify the word tuning to mean using the available settings to meet the requirements that I'm looking for. Once you start machining and using aftermarket parts it becomes modifying. I think that the word tuning can have a broad meaning and include modification but I think that the general consensus is probably understood to cover just the variables built into the gun.

When I think of tuning my guns it's usually just getting it fine tuned to shoot what I want it to shoot like my EVOL or Mrod. Both drastically different guns. EVOL I dropped reg pressure and HS tension and got my 870fps goal with 18gr. Mrod I swapped hammer for a lighter one and heavier shorter hammer spring for a free floating hammer. I got that one tuned to 20fpe.

What Derrick does is more of mod it to make the gun reach it's max potential as well as perfect it's tune.

Every thing working in harmony with one common consistent results, like music in an orchestra. But I usually have to go through hell and aggravating results, but when I find it I know it. The feeling of accomplishment once I achieve it is perhaps like conductor of an orchestra, but I’m just some guy tuning a gun in my back yard. Hope that made someone laugh.

When I “ tune “ a PCP rifle whether it’s an Impact or it’s a Hatsan . I make adjustments to shoot at the best possible efficiency , with the smallest ES I can achieve at an accurate velocity with one projectile in mind. Sometimes it’s no more than making some exterior adjustments with the existing components on the said rifle like what is capable on the Impact . Or I can get to , changing hammer weights , hammer springs , SSG’s , porting , barrel work , weights , harmonic balancers, clocking the barrel etc. To me tuning , is making changes wether big or small to achieve a particular objective.

Now if a tuner were to charge money to adjust a hammer spring and send it off and call that I tune . I don’t think they would be in business for too long.
