Tune your Bipod

A year ago I purchased a cheap bipod from Utah Airguns – the adjustable tactical bipod – for about 40$. Well, it did what I needed it to do which is hold the front end of my gun up when I shoot – but after shooting a while, I really needed it to cant more easily so I could shoot on uneven surfaces. When I took it apart, this is what I found.

The thing was a complete mess and all scratched up from poor fitment/polish at the factory.

I know , I know, you get what you pay for. Well, in this instance, I knew I could fix it. I polished all of the contact surfaces - you can see how burred up the aluminum and steel washer is - the aluminum got dinged up from the harder steel slip ring not being completely polished after milling.

This is half first stage polish and half unpolished. You can clearly see how beat up the aluminum is.

Notice the milling marks on the slip ring - this is what killed the aluminum it sat against.

This is what it should look like:

Put it all back together with some grease and Loctite in the right places and viola! Great bipod!

Got the same bipod and it came apart on me this last weekend. Guess I have something to do now. Hope I can get the same results.

Pm me if you have trouble. I had a few snags along the way. Had to tap out the center stud on a vice with a ball peen hammer. Once I had it back together I realized I needed to Loctite the screws that hold the leg set pins and the legs themselves so they wouldn’t come loose. Other than thay it went pretty smooth.
