Trying so hard to find a reason not to buy Air Arms S510

So I've always been a firearms guy until a few years ago my job kept me overseas moving from country to country for 3 years straight. So that I didn't loose my long range weapons skills I bought a Gamo Whisper Fusion, had a blast with it, but I wanted something more, so I bought an RWS Diana Model 54, and that sure scratched the itch. Well I'm finally about to go back to the States and I'm thinking, now I can finally get into PCP's if I really want to.

So I started doing research, I figure if I'm gonna do this, I'm going to do it right. My research has brought me to the Air Arms S510. As hard as I've looked I can't find a more accurate, reliable, well built rifle for less or even close to the same price.

Does anyone disagree?

EDIT: Oh btw I'm looking for a reason not to buy it because I don't need to spend $2k on a PCP set up right now. (but I can)

Well ... the South African kid likes them. They have a real trigger guard instead of a wooden ( retch ) one. Not regulated though. Personally I will never have an unregulated airgun. The S510 looks nice. If that classic rifle style appeals to you. I'm a plinker and pest shooter and prefer bullpups. I need a second airgun as my Wildcat will crap out on me one of these days and I'll have to send it off to be worked on. I look at candidates all the time and right now if I had to pull the trigger .... I'd buy a second Wildcat.

"Bruce"Check out Daystate form AOA. I have a .25 Benjamin Marauder and a Daystate huntsman classic in .22. I will grab the Daystate any time over the Marauder. Airgun of Arizona has a sale on the Huntsman Regal for just over 1,000.00.
I saw that! And it's really hard to rule out the Regal XL, BUT the Regal has a cylinder size of 162cc and the S510 has 231CC. It is a really close tie though! But shot count does matter to me.

Yeah, you're not the first to say they'd never buy an unregulated gun for various reasons, I'm assuming yours are low shot count, added turbulence behind round and noise? I've heard these problems don't really present themselves with the S510. What do you think?

According to Matt Dubber's review his S510 Ultimate Sporter only got about 17 shots with a low ES (20 fps). He had to install a regulator to improve shot count and consistency.

Hmmm maybe I'm getting my reviews mixed up, I'd better go check that out

First i will tell you I have an s510 and have owned it for about 3 years and i love it and still use it. Its a very flexible gun because you can adjust the power from the out side. This is not the only gun on the market that will do this but is probably the cheapest that will do this. On high power I get 40 shots with less than a 1/4 of inch POI change at 25 yards. I've killed pest out to 115 yard on a power setting of 3 shooting 15.89 JSB on numerous occasions. The only down fall is that fact that it is unregulated, which Air Arms has said over and over again, it works great for an unregulated gun and IT DOES. Matt has 3 Air Arms that he used regularly up until he got the Impact and i believe he only put a regulator in one (just my belief). I will always have my s510 because it is so backyard friendly and accurate I just can't get rid of it. But with that being said I will NEVER buy another unregulated gun. I believe my s510 is more accurate than my Cricket which is regulated (its just soooooo long), but not as good as my Tactic which is also regulated. Hope this helps, its also the most inexpensive PCP i own.

It does help! Thanks, but what caliber is your S510 and do you have the large or smaller air tank?

I still think my S510 (FAC) is one of the best "bang for the buck" rifles that I've owned. It's always been a steady shooter. I have put it up agains much more expensive rifles and it has held its own. The magazines are cheap, easy to reload, and the simple design means there's no critical springs to get fouled up. It's a comfortable shooter that's easy to grab and go for that quick opportunity shot on a backyard pest. In 5? years the only thing I've had go out was the o-ring on the magazine (easy fix).
Mine has had no modifications done to it other than some "life scars". I also picked up the single shot tray (RC Machine?).
It does have a pretty good bell curve to it, however, so keep that in mind. If it says you'll get 70 shots, your "sweet spot" might only have 40 shots.
You can add a regulator to it later which will give you more consistent shots. I saw a thread about it here a while ago.

Thanks Tom, would you mind telling me what Caliber and bottle size you have of your rifle? Big or Small.

I absolutely love the look of the smaller one, but the bigger one (obviously) gives more shots and doesn't weight that much more or look much worse.

But he has always said he wished AA would regulate their guns because of the shot count. I think they are offering a regulated version of their new BP so they listened to him. He said they work great unregulated at the 12 FPE level but the FAC versions did not have adequate shot count. Daystate uses a sling shot efficient valving system and the guns with this system are unregulated. But they are able to get 80 shots per fill with a low ES.

You could be wrong there buddy... (it's @ the point he talks about it)

Wouldn't it be cool if he chimed in? lol

I have two Air arms rifles. An S510 and an S400. Of all my air rifles they are the only two air rifles I have that I have never entertained the thought of selling and most likely never will.

That said I have used the Regal XL and for what you can buy them for in the states I would buy that. Only reason I don't have one is they are to bloody expensive in Canada.

Shot count is higher, although fill pressure is higher to and I like the stock better.

Keep in mind neither of these are high capacity guns. They are hunting tools designed for stalking where 20 good shoots is more than enough for a morning of bunny popping for the most part.

If you are going to be blasting paper or starlings from a bipod for long sessions these are probably not the best choice.

Really appreciate your input! I do plan on doing both, hunting and plinking, but I imagine in the beginning, say for learning the gun it's going to get annoying refilling it so often huh? Price to pay I guess. But are you just throwing the number 20 out there? Earlier Tominco said he were getting around 40 within peak pressure, that's a really big difference.

That's the 117 cal gun. Look at the 22 cal Ultimate Sporter review. He's getting over 60 shots since he installed the regulator. It's at the point where he talks about shot count
