Trouble with .177 AA pellets

My last purchase was about 6 months ago but the trend I’ve seen over the last 3-4 years is that both JSB and AA in .177 and .22 trend small. I don’t have much data on .25 cal since I don’t use it as frequently. Nonetheless they’re still the most accurate pellets in most of my rifles...often capable of MoA at 25 yards, sometimes 45 yards, in outdoor conditions, forestock rested but buttstock shouldered. As long as the head kisses the rifling (some say “ride the rails”), that is all it has to do. Some barrels are more sensitive than others.

Are groups bad across multiple rifles? If so, I think you would be well within reason to ask for an exchange or refund.

And it goes on.. I have a pellet inspector and most just fall through.. Emailed Joe and he sent me one with slightly smaller holes but it didn't help. He also stated that the AA pellets skirts are the same size as the head.. That is why they just fall through.. Don't know if I will purchase another tin to see if this was a fluke.. Jsb exact monster are right on the money as far as the head sizes are.. Basicly only 2 head sizes !! 4.53 and 4.54 ..

I decided to order 4 tins of 4.52mm Air Arms Domes per the Pyramyd Air "buy 4 pay for 3 deal" plus an added 10% discount and received the pellets today.

The pellets were perfectly packed (as usual by PA) with each tin supported by foam inside a cardboard box like this.........

I decided to check out head size of some pellets from the above tin at random and this is what I found...........

Most of the pellets had head sizes smaller than the labelled 4.52mm, however not by much and I really wouldn't put much faith in that "second decimal point" due to the tolerance of my digital caliper and the "unit rounding off"..........

I haven't had the chance to accuracy test the 8.44 grain AA Domes yet but I did shoot a few over the chrony sensors and recorded the velocity. Then I ran a few 7.9 grain boxed CPLs over the chrony sensors. This is the pellet speed when shot with my oring sealed, Krytox lubed, ARH E3650 sprung, HW95..........

AA Domes, 8.44 grain, 4.52mm..........838 844 836 844 842 840 848 841 839 839 (10 fps variation)

Boxed CPLs (Die B), 7.9 grain, head sized to 4.50mm.........847 850 848 846 853 847 848 842 844 (11 fps variation)

Bottom line..........

The pellets from the one tin I opened fit the leades of both my .177 R9 and .177 HW95 nicely snug, however the fit in my R9 leade wasn't quite as snug as it was with the tighter leade HW95. Even though my AA Domes measured a TAD under the labeled 4.52mm, I do think the AA Domes received today will be accurate when I get to my practice lane from both my tight leade HW95 and Beeman R9 without the need for sizing. However, it remains to be seen when I get to shoot them at 50 yards and I could be surprised.

P.S.

I just shot a hft style (sitting on a bucket resting the gun on cross sticks) 5 shot group with these pellets upstairs at 18 yards with my oring sealed HW95. Old habits die hard so these pellets were also lubed with Slick50 OneLube...........

Absolutely no swarf in that tin of AA domes..........
