Tripods - I'm hooked.

I finally gave in and bought a nice big solid tripod for shooting. I had already been sold on replacing the table top bipod with a mini tripod, but I couldn't believe that a standing setup would be so stable.

Shooting 1/2" groups at 50 yards out my basement window.

I am blown away at how stable the platform is.

lol, OK, so I'm not as smart as I though! :)

I've been waiting for months on an order from Pyramyd with JSBs and a little bipod to try out.

Just two days ago I finally got sick of waiting, you see I am a bit of a wildlife photographer, so I took the screw from the picatiny and used it to mount up one of my long lens plates, and dropped that on one of my big tripods. Fantastic solution! I was actually thinking I'd come up with this new idea :)

Now I'll have to try the Wimberly Gimbal.

I was using it sitting,. you don't need a shooting bench! With adjustable legs, you can do whatever, prone, etc. Never thought to try it standing!

Clunky yes - but a geared head is pretty cool.

I think that geared head would work really well for benchrest, actually. I’ve adapted my photography tripods (Gitzo) to shooting but never thought to use my Wimberley; it’s just sitting in a box.

I’ve been using a RRS leveling base with an Arca clamp for long range pb shooting for a few years, but the picture I copied is their newest ball head the Anvil-30 specifically built for long range shooting. It has butter smooth articulation and clamps with 30 foot pounds of pressure to lock the rifle solid. I’m switching my leveling base to a table top tripod and using the anvil for everything from sitting on a bucket to standing.
