Trident moderator (by Ramus Technology)

I want to share my positive experience with a LDC that I don’s often see mention on the forums or on various air gun related Facebook-groups.

This summer I was lucky to get my hands on a couple of Trident airgun moderators by Ramus Technology.

Previously I have almost exclusively used various rimfire moderators (due to the fact that silencer are not regulated and we have some very good manufactures of such devices here in Norway). While the rimfire moderators did a fine job silencing my guns the Trident blows them out of the pond. The difference is not obvious right away while shooting; my epiphany came when I let my girlfriend shoot my Steyr. The Trident seems to muffle the shot to another pitch that (at least to me) is less obvious.

The internals in the moderator is supposed to work as an air-stripper and approve upon accuracy. I must honestly say that I have not experienced much difference to my previous devices, but then again I mostly plink and shoot various reactive targets and rarely punch paper.

I just received a monster .177 rifle supposed to deliver over 50 fpe. Going to be interesting to test its efficiency on that beast.

Anyone else have experiences with the Trident moderators?

I’m very interested in the Trident Suppressors. AoA is selling them I see. Only thing is, they must “permanently” attach it to your gun at their premises. Anywho, the suppressors are said to be very light thus having less affect on POI. Also, their design is said to “strip” the air from the pellet lessening the affects of this errant air on accuracy. I’d really like to give one a try.

In the video JimNM posted, the sound of the air leaving the moderator sounds off. I know the video claims that the sound is real and not RT (what does RT mean anyway?), but I'm pretty sure only the sound of the pellet hitting the target is not in slow motion and the sound of the air leaving the suppressor is in slow motion along with the video. I'd be interested in hearing what the sound is really like.

Like PaulB, I can't find much about Ramus Technology online. Apparently, they don't even have a website.

Ramus Technologies is part of Paradox Ventures.

They are working on releasing a new site late this week or early next week. You will also be able to purchase these at Utah Airguns, and other places very soon. Also the outter design have been updated on the REVII that just launched at EBR. AOA will be selling these without having to purchase an airgun very soon.

RT means Not Realtime, but the sound is the actual sound in actual time. Not slow motion sound.

I saw quite a few of these at EBR. The Sportsman Class winner (and second place overall) had one on his .30 Crown. At the awards ceremony lunch, about ten were given away as part of the trivia game played while we waited for overall scores to be counted. They look very high quality.

There was also another new brand out called 0db (Zero DB). They gave out one to each table at the Saturday evening dinner, we played 3 card stud for who got the table's moderator. I tried it on my .30 Bobcat and was very impressed. Its about the same size as a DonnyFL Sumo, but slightly thinner.

I'm definitely going to check out Ramus products, specifically this Trident. I don't need quiet, but I enjoy air guns way more when they're quiet. Otherwise, why not rimmy?

You asked about the .177 listed as 50fpe. Only 2 that I know of out of box. Beaumont Grizzly at $6000.00, ok. Then we have The Hatsan Bully. The bull pup version of The Gladiator if I'm correct. I guess they tested with 16 grain Eun Jin. That's the heaviest easily available. 177. There are cast pellets & slugs I've seen as high as 29 grains in .177. Mr. Hollow Point makes these and sizes them through 4.50-4.55, your choice; but 50 cost $25.00.

This is a specialty. If that barrel can shoot these, one would have great skull penetration on game & if accurate, a decent in the ear for hog solution.

I can't see normal Diabolo pellets doing well past 32-38fpe, so I think slugs were in mind for this rifle. Hope they got a twist rate right for sub sonics & no choke.

Curious...why would you pay $200 when you can get dead silence from https://donnyfl.com/ at less cost??? I have had one on my last three airguns and all I could hear was the hammer spring and pellet impact.

Perhaps I'm not seeing the bigger picture, but when Donny has six different sized moderators, same quality, at as little as half the cost, I'll support a forum member's business before I buy retail from a large corporation. Just my two cents worth...I realize it's your money, your choice.

The ramus trident is actually very interesting as it's internals are intended to fail if misused by someone trying to use it on a powder burner. This function is a positive for the airgunners as our airguns seem to be getting more and more powerful which in turn seems to draw gun activist eyes.

Anything we can do as a community to grow our sport but at the same time keep ourselves separated from powder burners is a very good thing.👍

Why not? If I wanted a cheap and easy option I could just go to any local sporting goods store around here and buy a rimfire silencer for less than $70,-.

I have been using rimfire silencers on my airguns for 10+ years and wanted to try one of these dedicated airgun "LDCs".
