Trail/pack small game pistol?

Take a look at the Browning 800 mag.

Shoots 8.4 JSB just over 700 fps. It has a floating chassis to reduce recoil.

It's a breakbarrel spring gun. I have had mine for years and has been accurate and reliable.

Only thing I have had problems with is that I use a red dot sight and like with all spring guns is that the sight wants to creep back , I used a dove tail lock block and that did the trick , would have been nice had they made a scope stop onto the receiver.

Friend had the LP8 Diana definitely better quality but was much less powerful and no more accurate.

I dropped a squirrel out of my kayak while peddling up a branch @ 75 yrds , seriously lol.

My Beeman P1 can do it ,my Diana P5 Magnum may be more powerful and cost less....Both springers.

Thanks, i will check that out too. The Crosman 13xx are very close, but all the pumping. I had one similar as a kid, Benjamin I think. I remember it being a pain shooting it all day.

Wish they would make better bb guns. Remember buying that yellow container with the black top, and filling it up. Pull the bolt back, bb self loaded, pump it up, kill.

As a kid, I absolutely stacked critters with a Crosman 760 shooting BB’s. Now I need a $1,500 gun to do it. Crazy!!!

I have taken a lot of birds and Chippers with my Daisy 747. I use the old Crosman premiers in the cardboard box. I think it was in 1993 when I bought mine. Also won a few 3 gun FT shoots with it too. It’s a single cock single shot with open sights. It also came with a scope rail. It is accurate. I haven’t shot it in about 5 years. So I just shot it 20 times over the Crony and it’s getting a high of 368, low of 360 and an average 363fps with 8gn Premiers. Pretty consistent. But it’s only 2.5 fpe.

So now it is a rifle,ok,I got one and I love it;mine is a .22 and has a long "dust collector"at end of barrel,you do not hear it....it is Accurate,the trigger is ok,butt can be made better....I paid less for mine new....I do not think mine gets 250 shots,maybe because it is a .22...

I have a modified 2240 and CP1 which is the same as a Chaser. Anybody who says its better than a 2240 must be trying to justify the money they just blew on the Chaser. There is zero aftermarket and zero parts availability for the Chaser. Most need to be worked on right out of the box to get them to function properly. A 2240 can be made into anything you want if your needs change down the road. Mine is a 700fps 50 shot bottle gun now. Its a tack driver with cheap crosman 14.3gr pellets thanks to the LW barrel.

No apologies needed, B. I'm used to folks having a hard time believing my claims about the superiority of half-century-old Crosman Co2 pistols to what modern marketing can muster, and am comfortable in being one of few taking advantage of that superiority not only for greater success on small-game than most believe, but the highest levels of success in field target competition.

I did get some good belly-laughs at some of the responses to your request for recommendations for a portable and compact trail/pack pistol; some of the recommendations twice as long and heavy, immensely harder to cock, and considerably less accurate in human hands than my recommendation. It's all good, though. I'll continue recommending the best choices; whether or not those best choices are heeded. Might even write more books about it!

The first thing I will say is no matter what I did to my 2240, it could never hold a candle to my Webley Alecto. The Webley is always consistent and the air we breath is it’s air source. That being said, I tried to like a co2 gun. I ordered mine from the custom shop with a steel breech and a 14” LW barrel. I had a goal velocity wise for taking out small critters and the short barrels just weren’t going to get it done. I bought every aftermarket part I could get my hands on. One because it’s cheap. Two, because when I sit down to tune and get headed in a direction, I don’t want to wait for parts. What I found is no matter I did, I hit a wall around 500fps with 14.3gr pellets. I also found that co2 guns can be wonderful guns if not tuned for max power. Also, your first objective is to eliminate hammer bounce. You can go hammer debounce device or short stiff spring. I alway go HDD on any gun with a tiny cocking bolt. I live in Pa and we have big swings in air temperatures during spring and fall. This gun just had too much accuracy potential to be crippled by what kind of day I was shooting it. That’s why I put a bottle on it. It’s a little carbine. You need to figure out where you want to be velocity wise and in what caliber before you start anything. A 500fps budget pocket pistol is probably just not happening. A slow poke? Yes.

Certainly a generous offer but I'd probably get a little agitated if I didn't know they were close by. Hope you find one if you want to go that route. I have a few CO2 guns and very rarely shoot them. Not that they can't be good but my experience with them has been less than satisfying.

Unicorns are hard to come by; but I understand if you cook 'em just right... they taste like poodle!

I was this close to ordering a 2400kt, now i have more hide to chew on. Self sufficient would be nice. CO2 has its drawbacks too, with temperature and buying it all the time. I was also checking out the pp700, but that hand pump is a pain. The springers are a big pain too from what their owners have been PM-ing me.

Hand pumping a pp700 isn't too bad due to the relatively small reservoir. I did it quite a few times before buying a compressor. But for the trail/pack concept, there is just something nice about a gun that, apart from the pellet, is basically self contained. I have 1 1377 and 1 1322 and both are nice in that respect as well. Plus for those Crosman pistols a stock can be added easily and stored in the pack. I'm sure you'll find something that will work for your needs.

Just remember if you opt for a PP700 there is about an 80% chance you are going to have to work on it. I read an 80+ page thread over on GTA so I knew going in what I might get into. It is easy to hand pump but my reg never worked and it was a chronic leaker until I got that all ironed out with my credit card. You would really like my PP700. I made a short LW barrel, cut the shroud down to match the barrel and shorter air tube. It has a Huma reg and I get 15 smoking fast shots with 8.80gr pellets. Then it’s only 26 pumps to pump it back up. With the choked LW barrel, it is crazy accurate. I have whacked quite a few starlings at 50+ yards.
