Is a torque wrench required for scope installation, or can one do it by hand?

It can be done by hand, dont over tighten the screws and be careful with the base, airgun bases are usually a lot softer material than powder burners so if you overtighten the base screws you might end up damaging the rail

If you[ are a bull in a china shop like me. The Wheeler screw driver set. I received mine and it takes all the guess work out of tightening down those mounts and rings. I will look for the link and add it in

I second airborne's post. Airguns (depending on caliber) do not have as much recoil as firearms. I've set my rings to about 15lbs on a UTG scope ring (4 bolts per ring) and about 22lbs per rail bolt. So far no loose bolts after a year.

I have used the Wheeler torque wrench professionally for almost a decade. Good tool. Left that job about four years ago but still use it often.
