Top 10 Rifle Scopes

I love your channel joe and never miss a video you make I told my dad and brother about your show and they watch alot too. I have a scope that I just bought for my deer rifle that I cant speak highly enough of. This scope is for hunters that dont want to do complicated math when they see an animal out of range of your zero. The scope is called the leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44mm CDS-ZL2. The zl2 part is a machined dial for elevation that has yardage on it. All you do is find the distance to the beast and dial it and fire. You call leupold and tell them the elevation average temp average barometric pressure etc... Anything you need taken account for they do. While i wouldn't suggest this for pinpoint accuracy on groundhogs at 1000 yards or anything like that. Its perfect for hitting center mass at up to 1000 yards. The. Glass seems as clear as my swfa but im not certain. Im not a master scope reviewer like you. I guess in the land of the blind right? 😜 Anyway if you are ever interested in doing a review on it I can send it to you to check out as long as i get it back! I will pay shipping. I dont have the dial tho because where i hunt we only get 100 yards tops before tree lines and i use a 243 that is minuet of deer from 100 to 500 yards. Im waiting yo move to idaho to get it done but good thing about luepold is customer service. They will fix anything for you after a single day or 100 years. Anyway much love to you and your channel pm me if you want to review the scope. Thanks buddy.

Thanks as well Joe. BTW your voice sounds exactly like my good friend Moose Watson.

I'm a FFP convert and have been for years. These are my comments on some of the scopes discussed, I hope you don't take them wrong! They are my opinion only so no disrespect to you at all.

The SWFA's both fixed and the 3-15. The biggest positive standout's for me are the turret tracking and the build quality but I've always been disappointed in the glass. On one my 3-15's the side focus turret fell off, sent the scope back and they replaced it so that's good. The reticle is a basic .5 mil and the turret rev in 5 mils and no real zero stop, features of which I'm attempting to move on from "for the most part". Out of 5 SWFA scopes I've owned I kept one 3-15.

I was just out a few hours ago with my Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 and my Midas TAC 4-16x50. No perfect scope, right??!! As much as I like my TAC, with my oldish eyes on 16x I can't hardly make out the center dot! In a few minutes I'm putting my 6-24 TAC on that rifle and am going to sell the TAC 4-16.

I love the APLR2 reticle on the Ares BTR, one of the best in any scope on the market regardless of price! I like the turrets better in the TAC series and wish it focused down to 10Y. Glass is decent in both and above the SWFA's. The 10 mil turrets and having a zero stop is a nicety!

When you get a chance try out the the Athlon SFP Argos scopes that are mil reticle with mil turrets. For $160 I think you will be very pleased, I have the 4-16. I bought mine as an experiment to see how cheap of a scope I could tolerate. Mounted it on a $1200 custom rifle to try it out and it remains there still today but for the intended purpose for this rifle a SFP suits better. A friend that posts on this site has 3-4 other brands on his air rifles that are 2-3 times the price, the glass in that Argos puts them to shame badly!

I prefer mil/mil FFP with .2 mil hashes if I can get away with it so there are many scopes that don't fit my notions. Another thing is I'd rather have a 3-15 over a 3-12, or a 3-9, even if there is a slight weight difference.

Thanks Joe. Good info. Tons of scopes out there and some info is helpful. My go to inexpensive scope has been the AO 4-16 Mueller mil dot. Good value although the illuminated retina doesn't work well with my damaged eyeballs. $220. So far they have been good about backing their products up.

Clearidge is a direct sale manufacturer who makes a nice 6-24x mildot. The back their products. I've owned several. Just under $400.

I bought a couple Nikko Sterling scopes in the $220 category and they are pretty decent three knob side focus models. Trouble is, they are heavy beasts. Putting one on my 10-22 feels a little top heavy like a fat lady on a bar stool.

Just something to check out if you make another run at this topic. I've had good luck with Vortex products as well which you mentioned.

I been wanting to test a Clearidge scope for a while . I emailed the owner and asked if he would loan me one for a review .

I emailed the owner , and he said YouTube reviews don't impact sales in any way and wasn't interested in dealing with me . So I will have to wait till I find one cheap for sale .

He wasn't rude or anything and I didn't take it that way ... I'm sure these guys get Bombarded with requests like that All the Time !

Hi

I disagree with the owner BIG time! Video reviews not affecting sales? I think everyone Overhere watches them videos before purchasing an airgun, scope or any accessories. Or you got tons of money, and buy scopes like candy.....

Anyway, i do. And it already saved me a lot of money. Right now i got an Athlon & a Delta optics scope, and love them both.

So THX again Joe!

Agree with you! Two scopes I own are after seeing some of Joe's reviews

I appreciate that guy's !! But to be fair to the owner he probably loaned or gave scopes out before without any increase in sales . Selling directly to the public it would be an easy thing to tell if there was even a slight sale increase .

Odd thing is Clearidge has basically almost zero presence on YouTube. So if I was him I would assume the same thing . But I do take a LOT of pride in showing the good bad and ugly in the scopes I review to try and help guys decide if that particular scope is for them. Seems every year a man has to drive farther and farther to look at scopes in person.

Yeah it's so hot here she been staying in the car when I shoot , she doesn't do well when it's really hot . Bella is a cool.weather girl

Bella is very lucky with you & your family. 👍 It’s also hot Over here. For the first time in history, it’s code red in my country. 40 °C/104 °F in the shade! Always nice to see that people take care about their animals. Sadly enough, some aren’t so lucky😡

I tried to shoot a few mags yesterday, but 5 minutes in the sun, and the pressure in my Crown raised about 5 bar. Hopefully the weather forecasting is correct, and temp should drop 10°C/50°F next week. Sorry for the off-topic talk. Just a chat from a dog owner to others. 🐶
