Took the 'trash can' Sheridan for a stroll today

Hi All,

Seeing all the fun Septic Death is having with the oldies I decided to dust off my old Sheridan this evening. It was a tad chilly here in California and I figured the pumping would keep me warm. This gun was found in a trash can by a buddy, it looked like this-

It would pump and fire but didn't hold air, so my son and I rebuilt it and I added a stock and forearm from the AA classifieds. I tried to solder on a piece of brass to fix the front sight but no luck, so I got creative with a scope mount I'd bought for it and adapted a different front sight.

I put a Williams peep on it as well-

So after doing some 'leaf cutting' I ended up at my range-here's 8 shots offhand from 10 meters-

I kind of surprised myself so I backed up to 15 yards-I ran out of pellets after 3 shots (plus my arms were getting tired)

I'm impressed with how well the aperture sights work for my old eyes!

Do you find using a aperture sight easier to use than open sights with " tired eyes" ?

Most definitely!

That's good to know. My Daisy 853 came with aperature and they are still in the box, maybe I'll try them.

VERY nice work on the sight for "Trash Can" gun. The people probably had their dog chew off the stock, they didn't deserve the gun.

THE GROUPS ARE GREAT.

Thanks for the replies, all! What was kind of weird is a while back I saw one that had been "modified" in the same way on the AA classifieds. Must have been something in the air...

Here's a better view-I didn't like the red dot on it, it lives on my Crosman Mark1 now.

There's something that just works when you combine a peep rear and globe front sight. The plastic front sight is for a Daisy Avanti and uses Anschutz style inserts, I switched from a circular insert to a post for plinking and close range hunting.

Good job.still good after all these years. Nice shooting.

Theres something about a vintage gun new ones can't match. Your shooting a piece of history that still works. They may be old but if you never owned that particular model then they are new to you. Enjoy. Always a great workout shooting these.

Here's my blue streak .20 I bought new. Gave it a rebuild last year. A awesome little gun.

Nice work on the off hand AND handy work! I think alot of us can relate to taking and old unit and "pumping" some new life back into it. I recently salvaged a Crosman 1400 that I came across. When I discovered it needed a barrel, I about gave up. But for $25 bucks I found a decent barrel and completed it. Liked shooting it so much, I tried my hand at refinishing the weathered stock and fit the recoil pad.

Great job on the stock! doesn't the 1400 have a dump valve and the trigger pull increases the more you pump it?
