Tomcat shares his thoughts on the new Daystate Revere!

Hey everyone!

Here's my review on the new Daystate Revere. I'm VERY happy with the rifle so far! It held up well to some aggressive speed shooting tests, performed well during a relaxing evening of shooting, and is showing very good accuracy down range. It feels very solid and well built. I recently used it for the August AGN shooting challenge.

I hope you all enjoy it!

Happy Shooting!

To be honest Tom. I still haven't quite forgiven you over the fact that you had an impact for perhaps 2 months prior to anyone else having one, and you never ever did an accuracy test with it the whole time you had it.

This review did not help redeem your cause. I personally couldnt care less about a guns weight, stock design, clip design, trigger pull, air capacity, heritage, noise level etc.... etc....

UNTIL I KNOW HOW IT SHOOTS! ITS ACCURACY FIRST! and EVERY SINGLE OTHER THING SECONDARY!

But that's just me....

I wish airgun reviews would do 3 5 shot 50 yards groups within the first 30 seconds of the video, and say, "Now that I have your attention, let's talk about the secondary elements of the gun...."

I talk about accuracy at the end of the video.

Historically, I have not been a reviewer that shoots on camera or posts/boasts about shot groups very often. Also, I place more value in the ability to retain accuracy over the long term rather than fresh out of the box, fresh from the factory, fresh barrel, just cleaned, etc. I would prefer give a rifle time to break in (or break) before I posted groups. After all, a rifle isn't very accurate if it's broken and unable to shoot and some rifles may start out great out of the box and degrade quickly.

But, to address your concern specifically, I was just talking with a friend today about my video and how it was on my mind to follow up this video with one of the rifle shooting and post groups. 3, 5 shot groups is a standard from years ago. It's been suggested that isn't enough to truly test the accuracy of a rifle. So, while your test level means something to you, it may not mean anything to someone else. I won't even begin to try to fulfill everyones wishes and desires at once. Furthermore, It was very difficult for me to get this video recorded and posted due to my extremely busy life outside of air gunning. I only put it together for those that may be thinking about this rifle in order to, perhaps, help guide them in what they can expect for their $.

I hope someday you'll be able to move past the Impact. Thank you for being a long time fan. I hope you like the new backdrop as well!

I can understand someone's priority on accuracy, I share it. But, truth be told, a single review on accuracy is relatively meaningless. There are so many variables that come into play, no reviewer can really come to a conclusion that is significant. Over the years I have found that barrel anomalies are so frequent, that one would have to test numerous randomly chosen rifles to come to a valid conclusion. And even then, the shooter, the ammunition, and the conditions are important, and will vary. IMO, if an air rifle is built on a solid platform, with a good barrel and trigger, it will shoot. Its long term durability and reliability depend on the many variables of parts and assembly. As with other things, everyone wants a simple answer to a complicated question. In the final analysis, we all have to take our chances on our own purchases. The builders of quality rifles with good customer support usually win my purchase. Any builder can put out a problem rifle, but if the design, parts, and support are there, it usually works out well.

I truly am a big fan, Tom! To be a little more balanced, the overall review on the gun was excellent! Honestly, it was probably up in the top 10 reviews I've seen on a gun.

It is however my firm opinion that the most important part of the review was almost entirely omitted. Who cares if the gun is quiet, has no leaks, nice trigger if it shoots 1.5 " groups at 50 yards then the gun isn't worth 600$ IMO.

God bless and keep up the great work!

I enjoyed the video and the gun is on my short list. But I agree with the poster who wanted to see 50 yard accuracy. I disagree with those who would say that shooting for groups with a new gun is “meaningless”. Right after your video I watched the review of the Brocock Concept XR (another gun on my short list). The reviewer simply sent pellets and slugs down range. He shot an awesome 40 shot group at 50 yards. And showed accuracy at 50 yards with slugs also. Finally some shots at 100 yards. Guess which gun I’m leaning towards? Even though your review was good it did not show the gun in action. Only demonstrably accurate PCPs are interesting to me or get my attention.

I refuse to watch it on the link provided so decided to head over to your YouTube channel. Great review Tom, you are very comfortable on camera and that's something I envy. The Revere is a great rifle and in fact VERY accurate for those who may doubt. I'm glad you discussed the stocks and how everything is selected for best quality and look. Thanks for sharing an honest look at a great rifle!

Cheers,

Dana

Great review and just another fresh perspective for those of you considering this or any airrifle. Although I find groups and shooting to be important, there are many variables to be considered and no matter what, every rifle will be slightly different. Focusing on other aspects like you did, can help to gain a deeper knowledge of the product (especially with multiple reviews available to watch).

I forget who said it above about wishing a video started with groups. The unfortunate part is that many would stop watching after 20-30 seconds of run time because they saw the only part they cared about. Kind of like eating your dessert before dinner idea. Then YouTube would drive you video down the list because their goal is to get maximum watch time from users. Pushing groups further into the video helps to drive up watch time and then increases the likelihood that YouTube promotes the video. Unfortunately there is a lot that both goes into making a video and truly understanding how these platforms work. In turn it can prevent us content makers from doing all that viewers want, but hopefully we meet most of you the viewers demands. 😎

Keep up the great work and that really is one heck of a good looking Airgun.
