Today's paper punching session

So I set out today to decide something I see a lot of folks talk about. Accuracy: .177vs.22. So I grab both of my rifles, some paper, and a few left over dots from my Shoot-n-c targets and went out back to set up. After running 20+ shots through each rifle to warm the up, I began the test. On the same piece of paper I take five shots per dot, three dots on each side, for a total of 15 shots per rifle. The left side is .177 and the right side is .22 with pellets pictured at top. The .22 held consistently tighter groups. All poops were taken at 10yards with the same hold using the same rest. So, as for your average and affordable pellets rifles at the local WallyWorld, go with the .22 because it will probably be more consistent.

(P.s. My .22 is a break barrel, .177 is a pumper.)

"Hynzie"well now you hold the record ,,Guinness book of records says the longest in flight dookie 8 yards ,,hang time 4.3 seconds ,,you blew right by that one ,BRAVO
Nope, in my experience the .177 has never really been that accurate. Now mind you, im talking about your average cheapo pumper from Walmart. My .177 cost me $50 +tax, what most of you know as the Sportsman900 from Bear River Arms. Even with a rifled barrel it's not able to group as well as my .22 can. At least within 10 yards. My .22 cost almost three times what I payed for my .177 and it's a lot more solidly built.

One variable that is important to keep in mind when comparing rifles is whether you're shooting the ammo that is most ideal for that rifle. If you shooting ammo that doesn't shoot well in a rifle, it's not going to group well. Find the ammo and head size that your barrel likes, and the groups will be much better. So, before you decide your .22 is more accurate than your .177, you'll need to find out which pellet and what head diameter of that pellet each barrel likes best. Then you can have more of a fair competition between the two.
And, isn't that what alot of us like about this sport? All the testing and figuring out how to get best accuracy?!!
