To those that like to be rude or hate "stupid questions"

I have an itch I need to scratch.

Four years ago (maybe a little more or less) while a great forum it was still fairly small when compared to the size it has grown to today. We were a nation but more a very big family. Most of the members were seasoned with a few drop-ins and new guys showing up being greeted at the door and welcomed in. To me that being greeted and welcomed is a very big deal. I have stepped into some expensive hobbies and been shut out by that better than thou nose up in the sky because I am not able to do so with the money or means that some have.

Michael had this great idea and introduced Steve into our family, and it was not long before we really did start growing into a Nation.

Now before I go too far because I know that there are those skim readers who will read the first few lines and think I am slamming Micheal and Steve I am not. I am very serious when I say that the joint venture these two came up with for this forum has done some incredible things for our forum.

There are some growing pains however and this is the itch that needs some salve and I know that Micheal and his team have been actively working on some of the issues, still, as members of this fast-growing nation, we can help.

1st please remember There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers If you do not wish to answer it then don't but do not slam someone for asking. The fact is some people do not know enough to know how to ask the question. Besides our search engine is not the easiest in the world to use. So please remember we are all ambassadors of this Nation one that is very diverse in region, level of experience, background, and history.

Be active in the neighborhood watch, more traffic means more bad guys, unfortunately, this is going to mean there will be more spammers, skimmers, trolls and all of the other little nasties that pop up in big forums like ours. If you see something that is wrong then flag it, the more flags the faster it gets nailed.

Agree 100%. Just a couple comments that I have noticed. Sometimes questions are answered assuming that the original questioner has at least some back ground. I think it would be very helpful if the original poster would do his best to inform us of his level of knowledge and if he does not then the person who answers should start from the beginning.

I have some experience after two years but I still encounter “ conversations “ which I would be interested in if I knew the language. And I understand that’s difficult to do.

Or perhaps a suggestion to a web sight or a YouTube video. And speaking of YouTube’s same thing. I’ve watched some of those and the presenter blows through some of it so quickly that I have to watch over and over and HOPE I understand .

NOW having said that I have hooked up with a couple fellows who have taken the time to PM and talk with me to get me up to speed and I have done the same for others.

Always assume the posters intentions are good. Sometimes I think things are said in jest and offense is taken. Give the benefit of the doubt .

Well said man! Can’t agree more. I have been a member here for a few years now. Mainly just reading about and researching the guns I own or want. Didn’t really feel I knew enough to give my two cents and didn’t want to be shamed because of it. But thanks to all the cool people on here I’ve learned a ton!! As of lately I’ve felt it was time to be more active and start sharing. Start trying to help other people who were like me. Fascinated by all the sweet shiny new toys with high price tags. Not knowing what I was getting myself into. Lol. Have they found a cure for airgun addiction yet? Lol.

There is an archery forum that is way less helpful than what I have found here it became a monster of and in itself. The people I have read on here in forum have helped me pick up pieces and bits that would have been hard fought lessons on my own. I’m 52 and can honestly say I know what I know which is very little because there is so much to learn if I listen to the people here I gain a perspective and or understanding that I just don’t want to bang my head against the wall (ouch) to figure out. Scopes and how to use them that was a struggle as I, a once young Marine shot only open sight M16 A 2 , this forum has helped in this regard and many others. The recurring thing I hear is people attending EBR and saying the friends you have always known but have’t met yet are just as nice in person as they present on Airgun nation and very helpful. Joe the scope guy/man giving the Brocock to the youngin at EBR WOW that is what I love about finding a PCP hobby and finding this forum. Thank You All and Merry Christmas

That kind of thing seems to be inevitable (although you would think it ought to be different) when you have so many different people. There’s always one or two in a crowd. Try asking about what is a good Steel for a knife in a knife group. They’ll cut your head off for asking 😂

I’ve noticed also an uptick in negativity as well. Snarky threads or comments. I tend to stay away from those discussions. I try.

The thing I always keep in mind and what is very easy for most to become desensitized to is PCP’s are dangerous. You must always respect 2,000 to 4,000psi of compressed air. A lot of “dumb” questions come from a I watched a video now I must have it guy who could be on the verge of blowing himself up. PCP’s are popular but not popular enough that your family or friends show you the way. We must rely on internet people who we have no clue of their true knowledge. That’s why knowledgeable members should always try to answer the “dumb” questions. It’s our responsibility to keep this hobby safe.

I’ve been here a few years. Everything I know about air guns I learned here. Folks are quite considerate I think.

Two days ago I posted the first reply in my hundreds, that I worried would be considered harsh. Luckily readers didn’t take it so. I was just feeling that those of us who are American consumers of greater than 12fpe were being slighted a bit although the OP did not intend that at all.

By the way what does SSG mean?

I’m a Contractor and yes high pressure scared/s the crap out of me more than framing nail guns , and here I learned how to use my air compressor, fill my guns, and it still scares me in a healthy respectful way

As one of the guys who asked a lot of stupid questions I sincerely appreciate the time and effort folks here have taken to help me out. Thanks. I would add that helping someone who needs it is as good for the helper as the helped. Also, different writing styles can sometimes seem critical even if it really isn't. A bit of generosity on both sides is appropriate. Merry Christmas.

👍

It is my belief that the only dumb question is one not asked and that we can learn from even the less informed. So, I try to keep an open mind and have had a blast here both helping and being helped harassing and being harassed. ;^)

In the few months I have been here I have seen only a handful of remarks that seemed to downgrade the ignorant and did my part to help them as did others I noticed.

I know it's hard to be patient with others at times especially when they fail to listen but we need to remember they have the God given right to choose to ignore even the best of info. Once we have politely said our piece we should just let it slide and let them learn in their own way and in their own time.

We also need to remember our written words will last in the archives of the net here, there and everywhere for many years if not decades for all to read and ponder. So make sure you think before you type cuz it's hard to take it back once it's been read.
