To leshiy or not to leshiy?

Just a couple of weeks ago I thought my financial situation couldn't include my airgun hobby. But with a stroke of luck my fortunes have changed and my Taipan Vet gets to stay.

Now I'm looking to build up my collection again. I'm thinking about getting into field target, so I "need" to get a gun for that specific purpose.

ALSO, I am wanting a 20-75 yard thump gun that is compact and light. The leshiy 2 seems to be the best candidate and the price doesn't scare me.. However I've seen and read so many mixed reviews/opinions of the gun.

I've seen a handful of videos with great accuracy and a handful of videos with disappointing accuracy. So what's going on guys? Is it just more difficult to shoot a high powered little gun? Is it the fact it is shooting from the mag? Are the bad shooting leshiy2 just not set up properly?

Someone enlighten me.

It will be a lot of getting used to for you for sure. If you’re coming off a vet (one of the best triggers in the industry), then the L2 trigger will feel very different. I’m coming off fx guns with similar trigger snobbery, and it sure was a learning curve. IT IS DOABLE. once you practice, the trigger will become very crisp and predictable for you , but WITH PRACTICE. if you think you’re going to pull this out of the box, and start shooting sub moa groups at 100yds, you’re mistaken. However, I’ve had the gun for a couple weeks now, and I’m already getting groups of 1/2” at 47yds with cheap crosman pellets at 860fps. Top that with the pure fun of semi auto, and it’s a winner.
good luck!

the leshiy 2 trigger isn't that bad...it is good enough to send 8 shots in the same hole in a couple seconds.

that said, the only downside is that it isn't particularly quiet, if that matters.

if you slow it down to half speed, you can tell 8 shots are taken. i got it down to less that 2 seconds after this first try.

So if the trigger takes a little getting use to, maybe that along with the fact that it is a small light gun accounts for some of the reports of just "okay" accuracy.

LBC, thanks for mentioning on how loud the gun is. That is somewhat of a concern, how loud is the gun compared to a factory suppressed talonp? I had a talonp and it was a good shooter but the airforce moderator did next to nothing.

The action is much louder than the average gun. It’s deceiving because shooting it, you would think it is really loud, but standing next to someone shooting it, it’s actually Quiet. My factory moderator was loud, but I added my huggett snipe to it, and it’s substantially quieter. The leshiy is completely different to anything else on the market. It can’t be compared to anything because of that. I agree, the trigger isn’t bad, it’s just different. The weight may very well have something to do with accuracy too, but mine in .22 350 shooting cphp and hades at 860-880 is very manageable, and accurate.

well, unfortunately i was only able to measure inside the house, so these numbers will be high...and i do not know how loud a talonp is, lol.

the loading mechanism is the limiting factor...

from 5' away from the muzzle...

bare muzzle - 109db
stock shroud - 100db
mod50 w/1 section/endcap - 95db
mod50 w/2 sections/endcap - 90db
mod50 w/3 sections/endcap - 86db
mod50 w/4 sections/endcap - 85db

bonus
mod50 w/3 sections and endcap w/paper plate and towel over the magazine area - 81db
mod50 w/3 sections and endcap with meter located where your head is looking through the scope - 96db.

@ Acruz I have the Leshiy 2 in .22 caliber with the 350mm barrel. My experience is it is quite an accurate gun out to 75 yards. A lot of fun to shoot. I also have the AEA Assassin in .30 cal and without a doubt the Leishy2 is far more accurate. For me the Leshiy 2 is the perfect truck gun for hunting. I’m more of a long range bench rest target shooter though and I would prefer an FX Impact. Which Impacts do you own?, I’d be interested in trading my Leshiy 2 for an FX Impact. Let’s talk story. Here’s a pic of my Leshiy 2.

Say yes to the lesh...

As long as you have realistic expectations for it coming it, you'll love it. It's a fun gun to have and unlike anything else I own.

With the stock "silencer" and setup, it'll sound like a pneumatic nail gun going off next to your face but with some tuning and better moderators, you can get the noise down to a manageable level.

Leshiy 2 is a good plinking and hunting gun. Not a one hole at 50 yards gun basis my experience. If you want a semi auto quick shooting plinking gun then get the Huben, LCS, AEA. They are better at accuracy as compared to the Leshiy 2.

i suppose i wouldn't be shocked to find out a 35" long rifle with a 580mm barrel is more accurate than one with a 350mm barrel that i can fold down to 16".

but then i can install a 600mm barrel of any caliber i want in a few minutes on the L2, adjust the reg and i am good to go. can't say that for the others.

And now there’s the options of using fx barrels, the options are limitless. Not to mention if someone made a .357 mag for it, we could have a 9mm leshiy 2 with an fx 800mm barrel. Semi auto big game gun? Yes please!

Bingo.

I don't know why by semi autos just don't appeal to me. Huben, LCS, Leshiy, I don't know. Maybe it's my bolt action up bringing? I feel I have had plenty of nice quick follow ups with a good lever gun. Never felt hindered by not having an immediate second shot. In fact, you can look at it this way, your second shot, which you cocked and loaded for, gave you the opportunity too quickly for that slit second collect your eyes and aim better for a more humane shot? Just thinking out loud. Anyway I say get what your heart wants you to get if you can afford it. If that is the Leshiy so be it! Just get out and shoot and teach someone to shoot!
