To cold to shoot. Weather Report.

How’s the weather out there. It’s been a bit cold in central Minnesota to get out and shoot let alone open the door a bit and shoot.

Came into the office this morning with my car's ambient temp reading having dipped to -13 F. Others in the office (a few hardy souls) report ambient temps as low as -18 F on their commute in. Not the usual balmy temps for Central Indiana. Wind chill due to the fierce, steady wind reads somewhere between -36 and -44 F. For those across the Pond, that is indeed around -40 C for reference. Even the legendary Mountain Men of American lore holed up in their snow caves and log cabins at these temps.

Record-breaking cold. I have a chrono that a friend let me use. I attempted to use it tonight. My intentions were to put my rifle outside and measure POI and velocity differences...

I never got one shot off. I did put the chrono outside but the blowing snow at -64 seemed to effect it (gee, wonder why).

I thought it would have been interesting to see how NP rifles react to these temperatures... But I found myself saying "who in the hell would shoot outside at -64?"... Well, NOT ME!!! 😳😂

I would love to add more to this thread, but if it's hard for me to open a wooden front door to my house with frozen door seals, don't expect me to be a genius operating a phone on those interwebs 😂

I can't even fathom what those temps are like. We had -20 with the wind chill factor a few years back and man was that cold. Here in WA for the most part haven't had much of a winter at all. Just had 25 for the low yesterday and 42 for the high. Next week a few days of normal winter for us with highs as low 30s and lows around 20. But tomorrow being February already we got about 2-3 weeks left before winter is normally gone here. Be safe all you out there!

When I was younger I would snowmobile in -20 to -30 and think nothing of it, would stay out all day. but now that I am older......70+... the hell with this cold weather. It has to be 50 before I will shoot again.

Yep, back in the 70’s when it was cold like this we would go snowmobiling and meet someplace we all knew and would have large camp fires sometimes bon fires, Oh to be young and now with blood thinners I complain when it gets to the mid 50’s hahaha.
