Tuning Tim Swan Harmonic Tuner + How to Index an Airgun Barrel (FX Barrels)

This is a quick introduction to the Tim Swan Harmonic Tuner and how it works. This video also shows how to index the barrel on an FX rifle (or any rifle) and explains why you would want to index your barrel. Thanks for watching! -Nate

A little confused Nate. The way I look at it, you've already established the highest impact of the group to be the 3:00 position but then you rotate it away from that highest position to a new point that will be lower, loosing what you had gained. What I do is find the peak group at what ever position that may be and assuming the group is tight, adjust the scope for the zero to be at that group. Maybe I'm missing something as has been the case many times before. Also if you you loosen the barrel set screw in between the liner rotation I find it turns 100% easier, sometimes with just using my fingers.

How does the Swan tuner incrementally adjust harmonics - having no threads to consistently move it forward or backwards?

So far, I have used this for costing $5.00 w/shipping. I loosen the (1) set screw and slightly move. I know it's crude, but how much better is the Swan or the FX harmonic tuner for that matter? Any comments are appreciated.

The tuner is rotated on the barrel.

once the barrel is indexed he only rotated the tuner

OK Guys and Gals,

I had a light bulb came on in my mind last night, a frequently occurring incident. It illuminated the answer to the question I had posed earlier, how does the harmonic tuner work if it's not connected to the directly barrel, only via shroud.

Pretty simply put, all the vibration causing any unwanted oscillations that the barrel experiences first originate in the breach area during the firing cycle. So by attaching the HT to the shroud, which attaches to the breach helps quiet the "noise " coming from the firing and tune of the gun.

I included the "tune" because more experienced pcp folks have concluded , that a good tune can stop this harmonic disruption. Everyone who had every found the one moment when the gun sound gets "quiet" because everything is in balance. Entirely different sound ! When the opposing forces are balanced. Nirvana of airguns. All the HT is only a tool to allow for super fine tuning of an already finely tuned system.

Should then should the HT be only installed after that "quiet tune" be realized or during the process? Smooth it out first then put the finally tune with the HT or start with it installed? Your insight on this question, please.

Reminds me of earlier springer days when the objective was to cut hold sensitivity by manipulation of springs , spring guides and all the surrounding components.

I would like to apologize to any manufacturer that might have offended to my marketing theory and thank them also for allowing me to continue the "illumination" process.💡

Thanks Folks

I agree. Doesn’t make sense the way he explained it. I’d say you just shoot 4 shots with the barrel indexed 90* away from the last. Take the highest one. Then shoot that one 20* each direction for that mark. Try to get it indexed to where the poi is at the highest point, which should be center?
