Thou shall not eat my figs!

Started remodeling a bathroom at my grandparents old house and my grandfather planted some dogs trees I’m guessing 70 years ago.

Figs are ripening nicely. Squirrels are destroying and getting drunk from all the sugar. I shot these two in about 1 hour apart and didn’t realize that they fell so close to eat other. Also the one has a fig next to her stomach. FX Streamline 177 / 21 yards.

Well done sir! Keep those figs secure.

Rabbits did quite a bit of damage this past winter on my blueberry plants and s stripped the bark off of my fruit trees. I lost two young trees because of this.

I took out three rabbits easily on and there were two still showing up but they eluded me. I haven't spotted a rabbit in about a month now but if I do....

good work keep eyes peeled for an attack , woodchucks here worse then rabbits and squirrels , but worst of all here is chipmunk they do massive damage , I wish we had more rabbits here I think coyotes got them , they not around much any more as a kid I remember hunting rabbits with bb guns like crosman 760 wood stock and then the model 1400 which was a 22 caliber , hunting we always seen them now I may see 5 in a whole year and I am in woods any yard daily

Last fall here I got did get 5 coyotes with pcp guns but only 1 rabbit with a 22 rimfire ,

The guy that joins my folks property planted some fruit trees two years ago and rabbits stripped the bark at the base of the trunk. I’m not sure why they did that. Maybe because their rodents and their teeth grow like squirrels and beavers?

I gave my my some figs this morning and said you can thank me now and also in the morning. She said “ why would I thank you in” .... then she smiled and said I guess you’re right.

Inteansty that is a huge fig.how does it taste?

What cultivar is it?

To be honest I am not sure, but I think it’s a Turkey Fig tree. It was gonna be tossed out by my local Wal Mart & I bought it 1/2 off. Best $8 I have ever spent!

Figs are the largest I have ever seen! Tasty too, IF you can let them tree ripen to it’s max, without getting eaten by the local vermin.

They eat the tender bark in the winter, usually, as a food source. They leave it alone during other seasons as there’s much easier food sources available.

Good info on the rabbit.

I’d say that was a great deal on the fig tree. Fig trees like pecan trees attract all types of vermin like you said.

My grand father had 7 pecan trees and 3 fig tree. He hated squirrels and lived in the city limits. He had a break barrel air rifle without a scope but couldn’t hit anything with it bless his heart. Me? I shoot the hell out of squirrels in that yard. All the neighbors give me the thumbs up.
