Third one this spring

I got my third collared dove of the year this afternoon while doing some yard work. I always have the bullboss on stand-by if I'm outside.

Got him right in the clockwork at 60 yards with strong wind @ my 4 o'clock. I have the bullboss tuned with a Huma to shoot the jsb 15.9 grain 920 fps and it's lights out accurate.

These have a lot more meat than a morning dove and I'm starting to see more of them around here. I'll put it in the freezer with the other 2 and wait till I have a few more before I can make a good meal for two. Gonna be tasty!

I imagine these taste the same as a morning dove? I use the saying loosely, “I wish they were in my area” so I could shoot some but we have enough invasive species around here so we don’t need any more. We can’t hunt morning dove in Michigan so I don’t get to eat them too often. My favorite recipe for them is dove breast, bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, you should give it a try.

Is that the type of dove that is near pigeon in size ? I see them sometimes in NorCal but mostly morning doves. You guys are making me hungry with all this preparation talk. I've had morning dove long ago where they were marinated in sherry, garlic, olive oil, pepper, salt and a liitle honey. Then grilled just till done. They were excellent! Only drawback was they were taken with a shotgun. Had to watch for small lead shot. With all rain we have gotten I'm seeing a lot of pairing Valley Quail. They are the main reason I bought my Sig ASP20. The Valley Quail is my favorite eating game bird.
