Third defective scope

Ok here we go I’m new to airguns but not new to shooting, have been target shooting for 40+ years but I’ve never been so frustrated in my life bought a brand new R9 from Pyramid air it has to be one of the most accurate rifles i ever owened now the issue it came with a mantis scope broken from day one elivation adjustment broken would not move POA pyramid replaced it this one also broken same type of issue elivation adjustment broken would hold zero for a few shots then all over the place re adjust and same thing good for a few shots.now 3 defective scopes the issue has been with no zero hold and the elivation adjustment actually fell off when i took the cap off right out of the box.while sighting in the crosshairs actually jumped right while looking through the scope on the last one.Am i the only one having these issues.

Cheap and built like a tank. Had one on my r9 for 7+ years. Still rocking.

Yup, some springers simply destroy scopes there is no getting around it. My Diana 45 destroyed five or six scopes in short order including my UTG, Hawke and and Falcon. My Bushnell Trophy lasted the longest but I took it off so it would not be destroyed after a couple hundred shots. My Diana 52 was headed down the same destructive path until I found the Diana Bullseye scope mount. Have not lost a scope since I started using it many hundreds likely a thousand or two shots back.

There are less expensive Chinese clones out there if you have the need.

Honestly thats about what I'd expect from a cheap no name scope. Sorry to hear about your troubles but I'd definitely recommend something from the UTG or Hawke line for that gun. You'll be much happier in the long run. I have two UTG Swat 4-16x44s and a 3-9x. They've all taken a beating and keep on going.

Plus one on utg scopes I've got several and had no issues with them breaking on springers.

I've never heard/seen a good word about the Mantis scopes but I have seen them compared with the Optima junk that Hatsan includes with their break barrels. Chinese made most likely and included to make you think you're getting a good deal. Had more than a few of the Optimas. Only used one as a joke to see how long before it broke which was well under 500 shots on a 12fpe springer.

The shooters above have given you some real good options for other scopes and the advice to talk to PA about just upgrading from the Mantis to something better and after 3 bad ones, they should step up and say "Yes, Sir, we can do that". Never used a UTG but they're very well spoken of. Hawke Airmax fan myself and have a 4-12x40 on my own R9. I'm sure you'll get a few others.

Let us know how it turns out when the dust settles.

Tell Pyramid to keep the crummy multi returned scope and refund you the difference between the regular R9 price and your "package deal". Then do some research on what scope you should put on the R9 and a scope that works. Either that or tell them you want a paid shipping label and RMA number to return their DOA package deal that won't work. Buy an R9 and scope wherever you please.

Pyramid should know those Mantis scopes are short fused time bombs on a springer with all their bragging about "talking to an experienced airgunner when you call".

I also shoot UTG scopes on most of my springers and had my first fail recently while shooting a Gamo 22 caliber. The fail really surprised me. I'm now waiting on a replacement from Leapers. I have a Hawke Airmax on my HW97 but I just don't like the small thin reticle so I'm done with that brand. I will continue using and recommending the UTG scopes for springers

Not trying to derail or hijack this thread, but...

Have you considered getting a PCP? It opens up a WORLD of scope options when you don't have to worry about what springers can do to scopes.

I won't say anything more.

Apologies to the OP, but Kerry? Everyone who knows you, knows your hatred of spring piston guns and that hatred is based off a cheap, under a $100 plastic stocked Crosman F4 you bought at Wally World and to be honest, it's a lousy reason to hate springers. Also a well known fact and has been that any scope included with a spring or gas rammed rifle only is to make a buyer think they're getting a good deal on a rifle. Buy a quality one like the OP's R9 and you might well change your mind. I won't take bets on that but you might...lol.

There are plenty of scopes out there well built enough to handle the recoil of springers and more than a few and the mounts to use with them have already been mentioned by the members above.

Oh yeah...FWIW, I own 3 PCP's right along with 8 times as many springers, CO2 and multi-pump rifles and use them just as much if not more than my PCP's :)

Again, apologies to the OP :)
