Looking at creating a new sanctioning body for 50y BR shooting to more adequately represent the discipline.

The main goal is to get more shooters involved. Many of the rules that are in place don’t exist for a good reason and hamper participation.

We are proposing 2 classes. Pellet and Slug/Rimfire.

Pellet will be capped at 30 caliber. Other than that it will be an unlimited style class. Pellet targets will be scored with a .350” plug.

Slug/Rimfire is max 22 cal and 100fpe. Other than that it will be an unlimited style class. Tethering will be allowed. Slug/Rimfire targets will be scored with a standard .224” plug. Rimfire guns allowed will follow along with current ARA factory class rifle rules.

in addition, the scoring rings compared to the current WRABF target will be enlarged approximately 1/16”.

If you’re allowing up to .30 caliber pellets, why not allow .25 caliber slugs if they fall within the 100fpe limit? More freedom to use the air guns we already own and prefer to use, would certainly equate to more involvement...The main goal of the new sanctioning body.

It doesn’t jive with the use of the same target. Not looking to use 2 different targets...and the adjusted target is borderline too easy for Rimfire already.

You could use the guns you already have with pellets.

Gotcha. It was a legit question, I was thinking about it and couldn’t understand why you would allow .30 pellets but only .22 slugs. Thanks for the reply.

One of the biggest gripes about the 50y pellet BR comps is that it’s only been open to 22 and under.

The next biggest gripe was that the target is too difficult for average conditions using pellets. The currently used 50y target is a Rimfire target that got recycled.

Yes...tethering would be allowed for either class.

Hi Mitch, I don’t think a 50y BR piston class would be very popular. Of course, if one was so inclined to give it a try they could shoot with the pellet class.

I would love to see more interest in 50y BR, I find it to be a fun event, I also like the tethering idea, some of the past events would limit sighters and air use?
after that gets done, let’s get a 150 or 200 y slug BR interest going

I have one question and it doesn't matter to me either way but just wondering why if you limit it to 30 cal pellets why use a 35 cal. Plug. I am sure that you have a reason but I don't see it.

And again I think that it's a great idea.

Pellets make really poor holes in the targets compared to rimfire bullets or slugs. It’s very nice to have a little bit of shoulder on the scoring plug when plugging pellet holes....plus the .350” plug also makes the target a little more easily doable for the pellet class.

I love the idea of 50 yd BR. With all the other FT events we have been shooting not sure what we would have to give up to add another event.

One thing I can’t say I care for is the fact if your up-scoring to .350” just because the pellet makes a poor hole. The final score would not be truly accurate to what is being shot. We have plugged many a card with a 30 cal plug and it works just fine with pellets.

Not sure it needs to be up-scored the way you want...just my opinion.

Hi Sandy....thanks for the feedback.

The final score will be accurate because everyone will be scored with the same plug diameter regardless of pellet caliber being shot. That’s actually the only correct way to do it. Making the plug bigger is the same as making the rings bigger....except making the rings bigger would make the target too easy for the slug/Rimfire class since the minimum plug size for them is .224”....and we don’t want 2 different targets.

Please note that we will use .350” diameter scoring edge plugs with different sized shanks for the appropriate hole that has been shot. We won’t be pushing oversized plugs into holes to enlarge them.
