The true cost of owning a PCP

Well I purchased this Impact-X in March of 2019. Below is what happened after that fact.

Impact-X $2,100

Aztec scope $440

580 cc bottle $350

Huma regulator $120

Regulator rod $30 It was bad from the factory

.177 barrel kit $400

.30 barrel kit $320

.25 barrel liner $110

Ergo Grip $40

Polish Plenum $170

STO Moderator $130

K&L Trigger guard $130

K&L safety $40

K&L ARCA rail $45

UTG Bipod $135

Mono pod $60

Valve body $35

Power Kit $40

Wika Gauges $115

Extra mags $270

Spare parts $150

Impact & parts $5,230

Compressors $700

Filters $100

Air tank $900

Pellets, slugs $1,045 19,000 rounds I have managed to shoot over half of these thus far.😳

Total $6,925 😲

So be careful if you think that the addiction is going to let you off easy cuz I doubt that will happen. ;^)

So far in my 10K of rounds shot other than the regulator rod that was bad from the factory I have had to replace one o-ring and tighten both gauges as they leaked after a time. With the number of times I have had this thing apart for upgrades and mods I am more than pleased.

Yup is a bit of money but a lot of fun for sure and I learned a huge amount of stuff on the way. No regrets as yet.

I just did one gun cuz I did not want to know the full carnage done to my bank account. ;^) But you is right ignorance is often bliss for as long as it lasts anyway.

I got away with far less than many have spent for sure but have a couple of more guns so I did not have to register everything airgun related with the Impact. ;^) It looks better that way. Yup I am in over $10K, in the last year and a half, as well which is a drop in the bucket compared to some here I am sure. That is almost double what I paid for my car.

I have said the same a few times. Guess I am trying to convince myself it is so? ;^)

I think that's about average. The poor beginner who thinks he's getting in a neat hobby is awaiting a revelation!

I try to warn/ educate newbies. I know I have over 10k in my hobby and getting deeper. Nothing compared with some of the guys.

I think the best sit down advice one could get or give is, secure your air source. Easily the price of a decent rifle. Then you create your arsenal.

Totally agree. Came over from 22lr to save some money after getting up to a Vudoo. The only thing cheaper is the ammo. Everything else is more expensive! But... I’ve learned more about ballistics, wind, speed, etc than I ever did before, and I get to shoot a TON more and it is MUCH quieter! So... I’m still happy I made the move over.

Due to the costs on that list... that is why I also try my best to stick to one at a time.

I bought a

mk1 rapid £495

S/h bushnell scope £300

broken stock from eBay, £15

paint, filler and glue to fix stock £15

S/h mfr reg £45

Was given a 360cc bottle and valve

Carbon and delrin to make mod £25

couple of spare mags £80

About 100,000 pellets £2000

Total £2975 round that up to £3000

Divide that by days of ownership 8395

and the total is £0.36 per day and worth every penny 👍

no chrony? pellet sizer, scales cleaning kits, shooting bench, targets on & on & on. ab

clever marketing at its best!

Those are the hidden costs that the addiction does not share so we can get others started. ;^) There are those and other guns and tripods and gimbals ect....

Great marketing it is!

Yup those poor beginners/New-bees in any addiction have to learn the hard way if they don't pay enough attention to those in the know.

bucketboy

I can only hope to do that well down the road but the last year and half has not helped much for sure. It will be some years before I can say the same.

It's cheaper than owning a boat, over the past 6 years I've spent over 10,000 on guns, pellets scopes, compressors etc. The only remorse I have is spending 1200.00 on a shoebox compressor that gave me problems from the start. Anybody need a shoebox freedom 8 for parts?

You might put it in the classifieds I have seen several asking about parts for the Shoeboxes over the past few months.

I try to rationalize it this way, I have been into several different hobbies in my time and to do things properly in any of them takes money and time to be fully involved. A guy that buys a motorcycle that he can only use part of the year here in the northeast can spend upwards of $35000. or as little as $1000. and get the same thing out of it!! It's all in what you want and like. As long as you are enjoying what you are doing that's what really matters!!

Just wanted to show what could be done with some very aggressive bargain shopping. All items were sourced through EBay, AGN ads and the former Yellow. Scopes were all purchased new. All the other bits were literally as new. The only exception was the FWB 602 which was around 98%. I know that I don’t have an Impact with all the gizmos and a Bauer compressor but I don’t feel like I’ve missed out.
